We believe that all associations, fellowships, and committees are, and properly should be, servants of, and under control of the churches (Matthew 20:25-28).

Introduction Matthew 20:25-28

When I think of a biblical church I don’t envision a church full of hierarchy and different levels of power. We are all equal in the eyes of God, and each individual church has as mush power and rights as the next church. No one person, authority, or church is above another. Indeed, these four verses show us that even Jesus came not to be served or have more power, but to serve others.

Definition of Servant Leadership

Servant leaders demonstrate Christlike qualities by elevating others through service, empowerment, and humility

Putting other’s needs first

Focus on serving others before yourself

Empowering others

Encourage and equip others to accomplish their goals

Leading with humility

Don’t seek recognition or power over others

Being a role model

Set an example of selfless service for others to follow

Benefits of Servant Leadership

Implementing Servant Leadership

Listen to others

Jesus listened to his disciples and others. As leaders we should make time to listen to and understand those we serve.

Show empathy

Jesus showed compassion to those in need. We should strive to understand and empathize with others.

Heal relationships

Jesus sought to restore broken relationships. We should work to heal divisions and reconcile conflicts.

Put others first

Jesus said whoever wants to be first must be last. We should put others’s needs before our own.

Develop people

Jesus invested in and empowered his disciples. We should help others grow to reach their potential.

Jesus as the Model Servant Leader

Though divine, Jesus Christ humbled Himself by taking on human form and serving others through acts of love, compassion, and sacrifice. In the ultimate act of love He gave His life on the cross as an atoning sacrifice for the sins of humanity.
