Reasons to Trust Paul
Paul is adament about clear conscience, sincerity, being not of the many who would say/corrupt anything of the Word of God just to gain followers. 2Co 1:12, 2Co 2:17
2 Corinthians 2:17 (KJV 1900)
For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ.
English Standard Version
For we are not, like so many, peddlers of God’s word, but as men of sincerity, as commissioned by God, in the sight of God we speak in Christ.
2 Corinthians 1:12 (KJV 1900)
For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have had our conversation in the world, and more abundantly to you-ward.
English Standard Version
For our boast is this, the testimony of our conscience, that we behaved in the world with simplicity and godly sincerity, not by earthly wisdom but by the grace of God, and supremely so toward you.
Paul will not use disgraceful, underhanded, cunning, tampering with God’s word to win people 2Co 4:2, 1Th 2:1-4
2 Corinthians 4:2 (KJV 1900)
But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God.
English Standard Version 2Co 4:2
But we have renounced disgraceful, underhanded ways. We refuse to practice cunning or to tamper with God’s word, but by the open statement of the truth we would commend ourselves to everyone’s conscience in the sight of God.
1 Thessalonians 2:1–4 (KJV 1900)
For yourselves, brethren, know our entrance in unto you, that it was not in vain: But even after that we had suffered before, and were shamefully entreated, as ye know, at Philippi, we were bold in our God to speak unto you the gospel of God with much contention. For our exhortation was not of deceit, nor of uncleanness, nor in guile: But as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, which trieth our hearts.
English Standard Version 1Th 2:1-8
For you yourselves know, brothers, that our coming to you was not in vain. But though we had already suffered and been shamefully treated at Philippi, as you know, we had boldness in our God to declare to you the gospel of God in the midst of much conflict. For our appeal does not spring from error or impurity or any attempt to deceive, but just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, not to please man, but to please God who tests our hearts. For we never came with words of flattery, as you know, nor with a pretext for greed—God is witness. Nor did we seek glory from people, whether from you or from others, though we could have made demands as apostles of Christ. But we were gentle among you, like a nursing mother taking care of her own children. So, being affectionately desirous of you, we were ready to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own selves, because you had become very dear to us.
When Paul talkks about becoming like someone to win them for Christ, he is referring to humbling himself to the customs of the people he is sharing the gospel with so that they would have no excuse to reject hearing it. He meets people where they are at, and preach the Gospel in a way that makes sense to them.
He is NOT saying (as proved by prior verses) that he was deceiving people by ‘pretending’ to be one of them. He meant that as much as he could he avoided doing things that would be offensive to them and their culture.
This passage also gives permission to explain the Gospel to different people in different ways so long as you aren’t being decpetive, dishonest and you aren’t compromising the message.
(ie) Describing the Trinity to a Muslim is different than to a JW
King James Version 1Co 9:19-23
For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more.
And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law;
To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law.
To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.
And this I do for the gospel’s sake, that I might be partaker thereof with you.
Muslims Believe
Allah is uncreated
The Qu’ran is uncreated
The Qu’ran is the word of Allah but is not Allah
Therefore you have 2 uncreated entities.
Since you can’t seperate the Qu’ran from Allah the uncreated entity which is an attribute of Allaw somehow became a physical thing yet they deny that God (even more innocous the Word) could become flesh, while Allah’s Word can become Book.
