Hey y’all the next couple weeks and months we are going to be looking and learning about some things vital, that are so important, in our relationship with Jesus and I want to start in and my prayer is that if you have a relationship with Jesus, the next several weeks you will continue to grow, if you just started walking with Jesus recently I pray you will learn some great next steps to continue to walk with Jesus, and then if you don’t have a relationship with Jesus that you would take the first step and begin to walk with him. So that is my prayer for you and I as individuals, but I also pray that it will be a fresh start to our student ministry as a whole because there are some things that are holding us back from really growing our faith and being disciples of Jesus and I want talk a little bit about that.
Last Week,
We looked at some difficult passages and how Jesus encourages us to not be hypocritical in our judgement but to use sound judgement.
The reason for that is so that we can help each other.
Great Faith in Jesus looks like - realizing without Him you are nothing and you have nothing to offer.
We saw how Jesus called this women a dog, but He was teaching His disciples sound judgment how to discern where people are, and was giving an opportunity to the woman to display her great faith. SO Jesus calls her a dog, and she is honest and humble and says you’re right, but that why I am here. Jesus praises her great faith.
We unpacked this story last week to give you sone great truths form scripture but also to give you direction on where we are headed as a student ministry, because I gave you my heart and the Lord has helped me realize that time is short and I can’t waste it trying to teach and grow people who don’t want to be taught, who aren’t humble and honest, and who don’t want to grow. So this is not just a fresh start for you but for our student ministry. Here is what we are calling each of us too. When we gather, when we meet here and if you don’t have a relationship with Jesus - you are welcomed, and we are glad that you are here, but we are asking you to value our gathering and engage in the service/groups.
What do I mean?
When you come that you would value and engage, that means that you would respect this time & place, and the people here - that looks like not being or causing a distraction, and listening to leaders, and learning by taking notes, talking about sermon in group, asking questions.
For those who are walking with Jesus and pursing Him that you would come to grow and be equipped to lead others. That looks like applying the biblical truths/the ways of Jesus to your life so you can live a life that reflects Christ and leads others to Him. Like We want to help you be confident and competent living for Jesus and teaching others but that it flows from a heart that loves Jesus and that it is not just head knowledge.
SO we are going to start by looking at what does it look like to have a relationship with Jesus or to be pursing Jesus and what it looks like to not be in relationship with Jesus or pursing Him.
Here is the Difference.
1 John
Relationship with Jesus:
Believe and confess Jesus us Lord of your Life. 1John 1:9, 1 John 2:23,
We walk like Jesus in light and love. 1 John 1:5-10, 1 John 2:3-6, 1 John 4:7-8
Listen and follow His Word and love people like He loved us. 1 John 2:3-6, 1 John 4:6
May stumble because of sin but give it over to God and trust He has taken care of our sin. 1 John 2:1-2, 1 John 2:18, 1 John 3:7-10,
EXAMPLE SAUL TO PAUL -
No Relationship with Jesus:
Do not believe or confess Jesus as Lord of our Life. (We believe we do not need a Savior because we do not have sin) 1 John 2:23,
Say you have a relationship with Jesus, but walk in darkness. (Reject God’s truth and persist in sin, Our words and our actions don’t align), 1 John 1:5-10,
Listen and follow our hearts(the world) and hate people (Hold grudges, treat them poorly, and do not love them.) 1 John 2:9-11, 1 John 3:16-20, 1 John 4:16-21.
Continually walk in sin. 1 John 3:7-10, 1 John 5:18
Spirit of the antichrist - denying Jesus is Lord or deceives people from believing the truth of God
I have written these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.
“A relationship with Jesus results in new life (Ephesians 2:4–5); forgiveness (Colossians 1:14); the indwelling of the Holy Spirit (John 14:16–17); and, in the future, bodily resurrection and a home in heaven (John 14:19; Philippians 3:20–21).” - GotQuestions.org
