What’s the point? You must decide how you will respond to the Triumphant King for not doing so will lead to tragedy
Scripture: Matthew 21:1-11, Mark 11:1-20; Luke 19:28-44; John 12:12-15
Things that I’ve learned:
When Christ tells you to do something you can do it in confidence knowing that He has prepared for it to be accomplished-therefore making any request He makes not only necessary to obey but confident to obey-what’s the point
Say I were to tell you to go into the office right now and take Mrs. Hundley’s candy dish
Natural result she’s going to question your actions
You answer Mr. Bill has need of it
It won’t do a bit of good
But if Christ were to ask you to do the same thing, because of His Authority no one would argue
The difference: the power of Christ’s Words
When God promises to do something in His Word He does it no matter what-therefore making all of His promises true and trustworthy (Isaiah 62:11; Zechariah 9:9)
Christ desires to save (Luke 19:41-44; II Peter 3:9)
Everyone has one of 2 choices in which they can respond to Christ, as King or as criminal
As King you will recognize His worth and worship Him
Donkey upon which no one ever sat (Holy)
Clothes spread (triumphant King; recognizing His position as King)
Palm leaves spread (triumphant King; recognizing His position as King)
Shouting praises
Hosanna (save now)
Blessed is He who comes in the Name of the Lord (His distinct position as Messiah)
Blessed is the coming Kingdom of our father David (Christ is King and going to sit on David’s throne)
Love
Obedience
Keep from sin (I Corinthians 6:18-20; II Corinthians 6:16)
Keep form immorality
Keep from idols
Service
As criminal you will reject Him and face judgment (In AD 70 Titus the 10th emperor of Rome sacked, looted, and utterly wasted Jerusalem according to the Word of Christ spoken here because of their rejection of Him, in fact there is a famous stone relief that displays Titus and his army looting the Jewish Temple that Herod built of all of its treasures)
Why the Triumphal Entry? To begin the events leading to His offering; Christ will always have the victory even when it seems that defeat is the only option
Betrayal
Unjust arrest
Unwarranted judgment
Sacrifice
But where’s the triumph?
His triumph over sin
His victory was that assured
