If you were here for the prayer event some of this may be a repeat, but don’t tune it out because there are new and expanded concepts into what intercessory prayer is. I believe the prodigals are coming home, but I believe 2 things must be true. If you are with us on Sunday’s than you walking through the idea of speaking God’s purposes into existence. This must be done, but coupled with this is intercessory prayer. The second part of professing, which is speaking God’s plan here on Earth, is intercession.
If someone is not in a place to speak God’s plan over their lives the truth still remains.
God’s plan has to be spoken to be birthed.
I’m not going into this idea in excess because we are already covering it Sunday mornings, but we see God’s mercy here.
God’s plan doesn’t have to be spoken by the person whose plan we are trying to bring into existence. This is why God created intercession. Intercession is
A Prayer Petition in Favor of Someone Else
In other words to intervene. We see this in groups of people who might start an intervention. People try to speak common sense into the person who is acting wildly. This action is usually a waste of time because the hearer has to desire to hear.
To intervene means to put yourself in the middle of something.
The biblically picture is to put yourself in the middle of God’s judgement and speak is plan as Jeremiah would say to prosper them and not to harm them. We see this many times with Esther
In the days of Esther you couldn’t just walk up and see the king. You either had an appointment, couldn’t get an appointment, or faced death if you just entered his presence.
People began enacting a plan to come against Israel and kill them. Mordecai caught wind of this plan and knew he had to get to king, but couldn’t. So he found his intercessor Esther. Esther was the Queen. However, even the Queen could die if she went to the king unsummoned. So She called for an intervention fast. She called Israel to interceed to God on her behalf so she would receive favor from the king when we should took the risk and talked with him. Israel faster. Esther went. In Esther 5 we are told that she was given favor and the king lowered his septer and her life was spared. The king said anything you ask up to half my kingdom is yours. Everything worked out. Israel was fine. Israel’s enemies died. All because of intercession.
You have Grace and Favor with God
16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
This help isn’t limited to us. So we have access to the throne of grace
In the New Testament Grace and Favor are the same Greek word
Charis: grace, favor, joy, sweetness, goodwill, benefit, loving kindness, rewards, strength and increase.
Which we can come to boldly
Parrhesia: With freedom and boldness of speech, open, honest, and blunt.
to obtain mercy
Elos: kindness, compassion, join with a Desire to help them
to find help:
Boethia- Military term to call to battle to help or give assistance in war, delivering aide
2. You must endure
9 And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.
The reason most Christians face defeat in prayer is because they give up too quickly. God’s timing is not our timing. His was aren’t our ways. We live out our 90-100 years, but God has been playing this game with great patience for over 4,000 years.
1 Kings 18 tells us the recount of Elijah praying for rain after 3 years of drought. Elijah prays seven times for the rain to come and finally on the seventh time rain comes. We found out later that 7 is the time of completion, but Elijah probably didn’t know this. We read it and say well it was only 7 times, but Elijah didn’t know that. All he had was the plan God gave Elijah which was to send rain. The lesson we need to learn from this is that
We pray until the task is completed.
Daniel Prayed
in 606 BC Israel was taken captive. Years later Danial read through the prophet Jeremiah and discovered it was the time Jeremiah prophesied to be the end of Israel’s captivity. Daniel could have said that well God will handle it, but something inside Daniel knew how God worked; THROUGH PEOPLE.
3 Then I turned my face to the Lord God, seeking him by prayer and pleas for mercy with fasting and sackcloth and ashes.
An Angel was dispatched. It took 21 days because of a fight in the Heavens, but 21 Days later
12 Then he said to me, “Fear not, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand and humbled yourself before your God, your words have been heard, and I have come because of your words.
The real question is this:
How many promises of God have been forfeited because we gave up too soon and how many more can be had if we learn the power of persistence.
So this is what these nights are about: Coming to God as long as it takes to see His will, miracles, signs and wonders come to fruition.
New Testament. The disciples waited 50 days from Jesus’ resurrection to the promise of Holy Spirit in the forms of tongues of fire to fall down. 120 people waited for this power to fall from Heaven. 120, I’m sure it started out with more people who gave up, pressed into God until completion. Then 5,000 were saved. Friday Night Fire is birthed from that posture. We will press in. We will wait. We will see the Glory of God fall upon His people and I am here for as long as it takes. Our prayers make a difference. Our time makes a difference. The prodigals will come home by the fervent prayers of God’s people. People will be healed from all sorts of ailments. Spiritual afflictions will be cast off. Freedom will be found and we will intercede for everyone. Until everyone is saved. AMEN!
Let us not grow weary but let us continually show up in the presence of God seeking God and allow Him to move. Let us worship.
