Luke 18:1-8
Introduction: I’m weary with sin in my relationship with the Lord.
Thesis: Don’t burn out, but pray to the Supremely Good God.
Don’t burn out, but pray to the Supremely Good God because He is the Supremely Good God.
Don’t settle for weariness, pray.
Pray in spite of opposition. V.1-2
Evil judge
If supremely evil judge answered supremely destitute widow, why wouldn’t Supremely Good God provide spiritual aid for spiritually supremely destitute?
If God does not answer than God does not hear
We act according to truth.
He will make things right for those who trust in Him. V.8a
God is the Great Equalizer up to good in our lives. Romans 8:28-29
Pray in earnest motivation. V.3
Continually sought protection in physical destitution
Do we realize our spiritually destitute position?
Matthew 5:5, Isaiah 64:6, Jeremiah 17:9
Widow understood troubles and satisfaction came from legal aid, why don’t we see our spiritual troubles as deserving of seeking after spiritual aid?
When was the last time you prayed in accordance with the Lord’s prayer for deliverance from daily sins and temptations?
Pray until answered. V.4-8a
The judge met her need
God is up to good in our lives, He has promised it! Romans 8:28-29, Philippians 1:6
If widow had enough determination to seek aid from evil judge, why don’t we have the determination to seek aid from THE Good God?
Pray to be found faithful. V.8b
Christ is looking for the widow’s faith in the church
Will He find such faith in us who claim to believe?
If so, they are going to pray in earnest motivation for their spiritual well-being, because God the Great equalizer will make all things right.
Conclusion:
Prayer:
Praise-Recognize the sacredness of God’s Name
Repentance-Psalm 139:23-24
Praise-for sins forgiven
Christlikeness-Romans 8:28-29
Growth of believers-Colossians 1:28
Praise-for the work that He will do in His church
