Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.

It is better to go to the house of mourning
than to go to the house of feasting,
for this is the end of all mankind,
and the living will lay it to heart.
My job at a funeral is to preach to the living….
I just would like to set the record straight:
#1 Sis. Carmen is not in heaven looking down at us….. Think about it!
#2 Sis. Carmen is not dead but she is asleep.
Paul said…
Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
Jesus said…
And all were weeping and mourning for her, but he said, “Do not weep, for she is not dead but sleeping.”
‘I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? He is not God of the dead, but of the living.”
We also know that where she is sleeping it is with the Lord…
Yes, we are of good courage, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord.
I hate to tell you… She is not sleeping thinking about this earthly life…
She is with the Lord! A Restful / Peaceful Sleep
#3 You can’t live one way and think you’re going to wake up somewhere else…
“Hands on your knees” Vs. “Going up yonder”
If we want to be where she is…. Flesh and blood cannot enter…
I tell you this, brothers: flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable.
Jesus told Nicodemus… You must be born again…
#4 It’s our turn now!
Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.
We have to be steadfast…
Steadfast: steady adj. — not subject to change or variation; especially in behavior.
I’m ready to be different!
We have to be immovable
Immovable: immoveable adj. — not able or intended to be moved.
My faith is rooted
We have to always abound in the work of the Lord…
Pause! Your “work” is connected to people… We were all created to meet someone’s need!
I have a job to do
#5 It’s not in vain
“In the Lord, my labor is not in vain”
labor n. — productive work; especially physical work done for wages.
The work of being steadfast
The work of being immovable
The work of meeting the needs of others
The work has benefits:
#1 Earthly Benefit
And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.
#2 I shall wear a crown
Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing.
#3 A New Body
Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed.
No more sickness
No more death
No more Pain
No more hurt
No hate
No more cancer
No more diabetes
No more
No More
No More
Don’t give up…..
#4 Here life was not in vain…. She is asleep so someone can wake up!
