2 Corinthians 5:17....A New You

Psalm 16:8 “I have set the Lord always before me; Because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved.”

INTRODUCTION

As Paul is writing this his 2nd letter to the church at Corinth. He is writing to encourage them further.
Encourage them to stay faithful.
to stay in prayer
to ignore the hatred shown told them by other jews and romans.
to keep Christ 1st in their life....
and by keeping Christ in their life 1st, Paul is giving the people a message of regeneration.....
becoming a new person through Christ....
In today’s world, people will try to lose weight, do something different to their hair, face whatever...
and say i am becoming a different person....a new me...
i am going to bust some bubbles....
i don’t care what you do on the outside, you are still the same....
I am not saying do not take care of yourself....TALK,PREACH...
but let’s realize something and be honest...
a new dress and hairstyle, doesn’t stop a hard heart....TALK, PREACH....
putting more emphasies on the outside is simply the sin of vanity....
the change starts on the inside when we allow Christ completely in our life...
let me give you this analogy, this illustration....TALK,PREACH....painting the church, outside new look but there’s work that needs to be done on the inside....
We are working on our growth...
growth in the word
growth in our relationship with God
growth in fellowship, the community
just overall growth...
of course we are using, 1 Timothy 4:13–16
1 Timothy 4:13–16 NKJV
Till I come, give attention to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine. Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you by prophecy with the laying on of the hands of the eldership. Meditate on these things; give yourself entirely to them, that your progress may be evident to all. Take heed to yourself and to the doctrine. Continue in them, for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you.
but before we can truly experience this growth we must make sure and have that new creation, that new you....
Let’s walk.....

BODY/POINTS

2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”
Paul answers 3 important questions to those that are ready for a change...
1, How does a person become a new creature?
2, How can you tell when you are becoming a new creature?
3, What are the results of becoming a new creature?
REPEAT....
1, How does a person become a new creature?
they need to be in Christ....
Paul here teaches the great principle of regeneration. Jesus Christ changes those who come to Him by faith and who are in Christ. The saved are not "just forgiven." They are changed into a new creation.
what does it mean to be in Christ....
To be "in Christ" means we have accepted His sacrifice as payment for our own sin.
To be "in Christ" means that God no longer sees our imperfections; He sees the righteousness of His own Son

2, How can you tell when you are becoming a new creature?
2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”
you don’t do what you used to....
you don’t talk the way you used to talk
you don’t think the way you used think...
those things are fading away...
old thoughts, old principles, and old practices, are passed away;
Paul is a great example of this....
I & II Corinthians D. The Urgency of Reconciliation (5:16–6:2)

The apostle truly was a new creation.

I & II Corinthians D. The Urgency of Reconciliation (5:16–6:2)

He certainly would not have worked and sacrificed for the Gentiles in that church. But now the shadow of Christ’s cross fell across his view every time he looked at other people. He saw believers as new creations in Christ and unbelievers as people in need of Christ. This perspective shaped his ministry.

and that goes for all of us as well...
old things, old ways are passed away… may not be all at once but the growth will be noticed…TALK,PREACH.....
3, What are the results of becoming a new creature?
2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”
The renewed man acts from new principles, by new rules, with new ends, and in new company.

The believer is created anew; his heart is not merely set right, but a new heart is given him.

Matthew Henry’s Concise Commentary on the Bible (Chapter 5)
Though the same man, he is changed in his character and conduct
the people was waiting for Saul to come out but they got the Apostle Paul
when you are in Christ and the old is fading away the people may be expecting the old you but they will get a new you...
in sin dead to God but now alive to God
no relationship, now in a relationship
living in sin and immorality but lives in righteousness and holiness
doomed to eternal death but now through Christ, eternal life....
the people will look past the suits and hair and see a brand new you...
the true light will shine thru you....
