Don’t be like them, Like who?

1 Corinthians 10:7 AMP

Do not be worshipers of false gods as some of them were, as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink [the sacrifices offered to the golden calf at Horeb] and rose to sport (to dance and give way to jesting and hilarity).

These thing written were for our admonition

1 Corinthians 10:11 “Now all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come.”

The Preacher’s Commentary Series, Volume 30: 1, 2 Corinthians (Chapter Ten: Learn from the Past) People who forget history tend to keep making the same mistakes and keep having to start over rather than being able to build upon the wisdom and the accomplishments of the past. In Paul’s continued appeal to the Corinthians for unity, he reminds them of the lessons that can be learned from history. A study of God in His relationship with Israel in times past will reveal what builds up and what is destructive, what works and what doesn’t, what frees and what enslaves, and what pleases God and what brings His judgment.

The gods of old repackaged for our generation

The human heart tends to stray from the true worship of Yahweh

Sexual immorality is still a powerful tool of the enemy to lure us away from a relationship with The Lord

Once the The Altar of Yahweh is torn down there is a vacuum that will be filled

The Lexham Analytical Lexicon of the Hebrew Bible (רפא)

râphâ: to be purified, be healed v., to be purified of dangerous elements

Rapha in the context of being healed or repaired is used 4x in the old testament one verse stands out

2 Chronicles 7:14 “if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”

Baals & Ashteroth: Fertility sex cults

Asherah: A Canaanite goddess often worshiped in the form of a fertility statue. Asherah is often represented as the spouse of the god Baal

Baal: As the storm god and bringer of rain, Baal was recognized as sustaining the fertility of crops, animals, and people. His followers often believed that sexual acts performed in his temple would boost Baal’s sexual prowess, and thus contribute to his work in increasing fertility.

At one point in Israelite history the baals and Ashteroths were literally in the temple of Yahweh.
