To know the salvation of God we must know Jesus in both His first coming and an eternally increasing second coming in our lives.
· We must embrace His sacrifice for us upon our cross
· We must live from the throne room of grace
Hebrews 9:26 He then would have had to suffer often since the foundation of the world; but now, once at the end of the ages, He has appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself. 27 And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment, 28 so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.
Jesus has put away sin and He empowers us to live free from the power of sin through a relationship with Him as the body of Christ.
· Jesus reconciled us to our Heavenly Father – He came so we could see who God really is and who we are meant to be.
· but now, once at the end of the ages, He has appeared to put away sin
Jesus First Coming and Second Coming in the First Century was the end of the Old Covenant Generation for Israel first to then go to all nations – First a man of flesh (living soul) – Second a life-giving Spirit.
· 1 Corinthians 15:45 And so it is written, "The first man Adam became a living being." The last Adam became a life-giving spirit.
God’s mercy justifies us to live and God’s grace working in our lives empowers us to live –
· His manifest presence enables us to reign in life.
Jesus as the Son of Man/Son of God gives us the gift of mercy – a judgment that frees us from the law of sin and death.
Jesus as a life-giving Spirit gives us His salvation in our lives.
That salvation comes to those who eagerly wait for Him. He comes to them as a life-giving Spirit.
What does it mean to eagerly wait?
with careful and consistent effort; diligently or tirelessly expecting Him to come –
· g0553. ἀπεκδέχομαι apekdechomai; from 575 and 1551; to expect fully
o assiduously and patiently waiting for
We experience the salvation of God in our life when we expect Him to come into our lives and He appears to us.
Isaiah 40:31 But those who wait on the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.
· h6960. קָוָה qâwâ; a primitive root; to bind together (perhaps by twisting), i.e. collect; (figuratively) to expect.
Those who wait on the Lord are those who seek to bind themselves together with Him. They expect Him to partner with them in their lives.
When God lives in our lives we experience His salvation in our lives.
· Isaiah 30:15 For thus says the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel: "In returning and rest you shall be saved; In quietness and confidence shall be your strength." But you would not…
· Psalms 103:2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: 3 Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, 4 Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies, 5 Who satisfies your mouth with good things, so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
Jesus came as God’s gift in flesh to deliver us from the corruption the flesh and grant us access to the Him as a life-giving Spirit.
· John 10:10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
Jesus’ first coming was a coming for the judgment of sin. His death upon our cross gave His mercy to us all.
It is appointed for all men to die once for the judgment of the flesh. Jesus died once for us all and has reconciled us to God as our Father, even while we were still sinners.
· Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. 10 For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.
Jesus came so that we could find our death in Him and therefore find our life in Him.
We experience the salvation of Christ when we eagerly wait for Him in every day and season of our lives.
Acts 1:4 And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, "which," He said, "you have heard from Me; 5 for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now."
Acts 1:9 Now when He had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. 10 And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel, 11 who also said, "Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven."
Acts 2:1 When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Our salvation is the fruit of an intimate and powerful connection to Jesus as a life-giving Spirit in our lives.
· He is a life-giving Spirit in the form of Holy Spirit in our lives.
Holy Spirit is the Helper that Jesus promised would come in His name.
1 Corinthians 1:4 I thank my God always concerning you for the grace of God which was given to you by Christ Jesus, 5 that you were enriched in everything by Him in all utterance and all knowledge, 6 even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you, 7 so that you come short in no gift, eagerly waiting for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ, 8 who will also confirm you to the end, that you may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
Titus 2:11 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, 12 teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, 13 looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, 14 who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.
Ephesians 1:15 Therefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, 16 do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers: 17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, 18 the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, 19 and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power 20 which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come. 22 And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, 23 which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.
