Silly Warning Labels
And The Sillliest Warning Of The Year Goes To...
The contest, now in its tenth year, is conducted by Michigan Lawsuit Abuse Watch, M-LAW, to reveal how lawsuits, and concern about lawsuits, have created a need for common sense warnings on products. Disclaimers...
We saw this on website mlaw.org, a website that campaigns against frivolous lawsuits.
Their annual award has gone to the warning on a washing machine in a Laundromat from a person in Northville, Michigan, it said:
DO NOT PUT ANY PERSON INSIDE THIS WASHER
Second place goes to a reader in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota who spotted this warning on a 'personal watercraft':
NEVER USE A LIT MATCH OR OPEN FLAME TO CHECK FUEL LEVEL
Third place was tied by two entries:
This was found on a cell phone:
DON'T TRY TO DRY YOUR PHONE IN A MICROWAVE OVEN
This on a Super Lotto Ticket:
DO NOT IRON
No prize but an honorable mention goes to a man who found this warning on a copy of the Yellow Pages:
PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS DIRECTORY WHILE OPERATING A MOVING VEHICLE
Voting took place by listeners to the Dick Purtan show on Detroit radio station, WOMC-FM.
