What’s True Anyway?

Proverbs 1:7 “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.”
John 14:6 “Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
Truth or Lie: Pick - A - Side

There Is Only One Truth

What are some things that are true?
Objective Truth - something that is true for everyone, whether they agree with it or not
“Subjective Truth” - something believed to be true based on personal beliefs or feelings, rather than based on facts
The world today has blurred the definition of truth when we begin to modify what falls under the umbrella of truth
Truth without in alterations is that which is factual, not taking into account any experience, belief or feeling.
This is no coincidence or surprise that our sin corrupted world is declining into more and more unclarity about truth, after all remember how sin entered the world
Genesis 3:1 ESV
Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?”
Satan has being sowing the seeds of deception and lies from the beginning of creation.
John 8:44 ESV
You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.
Do you see that this is one of Satan’s devices?
Listen to Paul’s instructions to the Ephesians
Ephesians 6:11–12 ESV
Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.
The spiritual armor we have been given is designed to protect us from the lies and deceptions of Satan. Thus, we know that Satan is primarily after distorting the truth, to lead people astray. Really into beliefs that are deadly, thats why the scripture calls Satan a murderer. He didn’t physically take the life of Adam and Eve, only God has the authority to give and take away life, but Satan’s lies & deception proved effective and deadly.
Where might you see this happening today? (People being led astray into deadly beliefs)
All of this brings our attention to the need to discern what actually is true, because otherwise we are going to be (as Paul puts it) “carried away by every wind of teaching and clever lies that sound like the truth”
One thing can’t be true and the opposite of that thing also be true
There is one truth and we can know what is true

Scripture (The Word of God) Is Truth
