Psalm 66:5 NIV
5 Come and see what God has done, his awesome deeds for mankind!
I’ve shared with you guys over the last year the Gospel. As a matter of fact, I may have not said this very often, but do you know what the Vision of Mills Home Baptist Church is:
To share the gospel with everyone who walks through our doors and give them a chance to respond.
have you ever thought about why we share the Gospel though? Like why specifically, I mean for those of us who don’t know what the Gospel is I’m going to try to share it with you really quickly.
We have sinned against God.
Sin separates us from God.
There’s nothing we can do to be brought back to God.
God makes a way through the death and resurrection of Jesus.
If you asked God to forgive you and believe that Jesus is God, you will be reunited with God in heaven one day.
That’s it. It’s not hard, what’s hard is everything that comes after. God wants to change you and make you into a better person, and sometimes we don’t want that.
But why share the Gospel with people?
2 Corinthians 5:14–15 NIV
14 For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. 15 And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.
See, Jesus gives us a perfect example of what love is. He dies on the cross so that you don’t have to die, but now you can live for God and live for other people. God’s love is the only reason we can share the Gospel with others.
There are other factors that can motivate people, but our only reason to share the Gospel with others is God’s love.
So this kind of brings us to 2 questions before we share the Gospel:
Do you love God?
Do you love others?
If you do, you should definitely share the Gospel with people. I mean think about it, if your best friend, mom, dad, or favorite cousin had a disease that was going to kill them, and you had the medicine that could cure them, would you give it to them?
Absolutely you would! Sin is a disease that separates you and me from God. And the cure is Jesus, do you have the cure? I do, so I share that cure with people that I love. Even if they don’t want to hear it.
I don’t want to talk forever, if you let me I will. But honestly, I don’t think it’s hard to share the Gospel with people you care about or love. That isn’t hard. But it is hard to share the Gospel with people that you don’t like. Because come on, I don’t want this guy in heaven.
But I do know that God loves them, so I should love them, and if I love them, I should share the Gospel with them. How in the world do I do that?
2 Corinthians 5:16–19 NIV
16 So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer. 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! 18 All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: 19 that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation.
God wants you to look at people differently. If you see someone you don’t like, we need to learn to change our perspective about them. We can’t hate them and not share the Gospel with them.
See, verse 16 reminds that at one point, when we didn’t know God, we behaved as though we hated Him. And verse 19 reminds us that at one point in our life, although we sinned against God, He looked past our sins so that we would be forgiven and would have a place in heaven.
I think sometimes it’s hard for us to think about people differently, specially if we don’t like them. But even though we’ve sinned against God, He saw us and loved us. Friends I want to remind you that when you sin, you don’t just hurt God’s feelings. Our sin is the reason Jesus had to die on the cross.
But regardless of our sin, Jesus loves us so so much and I truly believe Jesus would die on the cross as many times as it would take for you to go to heaven.
The cool thing about Jesus though, is that He only had to die once. Because His life was enough to pay for all of your sins and mine. And even the entire world.
If He could pay for my sins, then he can definitely pay for my enemy’s sins too.
