Title - Wait On The Lord
Title - Wait On The Lord
Now Sarai, Abram’s wife, had borne him no children. And she had an Egyptian maidservant whose name was Hagar. So Sarai said to Abram, “See now, the Lord has restrained me from bearing children. Please, go in to my maid; perhaps I shall obtain children by her.” And Abram heeded the voice of Sarai. Then Sarai, Abram’s wife, took Hagar her maid, the Egyptian, and gave her to her husband Abram to be his wife, after Abram had dwelt ten years in the land of Canaan. So he went in to Hagar, and she conceived. And when she saw that she had conceived, her mistress became despised in her eyes. Then Sarai said to Abram, “My wrong be upon you! I gave my maid into your embrace; and when she saw that she had conceived, I became despised in her eyes. The Lord judge between you and me.” So Abram said to Sarai, “Indeed your maid is in your hand; do to her as you please.” And when Sarai dealt harshly with her, she fled from her presence. Now the Angel of the Lord found her by a spring of water in the wilderness, by the spring on the way to Shur. And He said, “Hagar, Sarai’s maid, where have you come from, and where are you going?” She said, “I am fleeing from the presence of my mistress Sarai.” The Angel of the Lord said to her, “Return to your mistress, and submit yourself under her hand.” Then the Angel of the Lord said to her, “I will multiply your descendants exceedingly, so that they shall not be counted for multitude.” And the Angel of the Lord said to her: “Behold, you are with child, And you shall bear a son. You shall call his name Ishmael, Because the Lord has heard your affliction. He shall be a wild man; His hand shall be against every man, And every man’s hand against him. And he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren.” Then she called the name of the Lord who spoke to her, You-Are-the-God-Who-Sees; for she said, “Have I also here seen Him who sees me?” Therefore the well was called Beer Lahai Roi; observe, it is between Kadesh and Bered. So Hagar bore Abram a son; and Abram named his son, whom Hagar bore, Ishmael. Abram was eighty-six years old when Hagar bore Ishmael to Abram.
pray -
Who here is impatient?
I dont even like waiting for my coffee in the morning.
Who can tell me a time they were getting antsy…
Now Sarai, Abram’s wife, had borne him no children. And she had an Egyptian maidservant whose name was Hagar. So Sarai said to Abram, “See now, the Lord has restrained me from bearing children. Please, go in to my maid; perhaps I shall obtain children by her.” And Abram heeded the voice of Sarai.
Sarai is getting antsy....getting old
and she is barren
She Suggests abram to have kids with Sarais egyptian maidservant HAGAR.
Hagar- servant He probably attained while in egypt
Abram listens to his wife without seeking the Lord.
Q. Where have we seen this before?
ADAM And Eve
Q. Why is the sin fall at adams and abrams feet
because Husbands are called to be the leaders of their famalies
Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body.
This doesnt mean men are better than woman
we are actually called to submit to eachother
husbands are also called to love their wives and deal gently with them
however we are called to be the leaders of our homes
so when your family makes a bad call,,, its on the husband.
Abrams respone should have been.... well honey thats so sweet but..etc.
but instead ...
Abram and sarai make this terrible decision to
take matters into their own hands.
Instead of trusting in the Lord and waiting on His promise
they use Hagar as a surrogate
She is called to have abrams baby on behalf of sarai.
they would adopt the child and he would be the heir to the family.
Abram has sex with Hagar
and when Hagar becomes pregnant
She looks on sarai with contempt..
this means that Hagar was filled with pride.
She probably thought to herself, I am blessed by God and you are not.
you needed me to have a kid for you
I am better than you...
but what did they think was going to happen....
Now there are many things wrong in this scenario
Q. Where is the sin.
A. They didnt trust God to give sarai a child.
B. Marriage is between one man and one woman
Abram and sarai decide to take God out of the equation
and help Him to fulfill His promise
Live by Faith
Live by Faith
Q. How many of you are control freaks?
I know I am
I always want to be in control and
have everything mapped out…
I had everything planned out on how our new baby was going to come into the world..
I thought she would come early because of our other two..
so we kept going to the hospital to get checked out hoping they would do the c section early…
not by faith.. trying to take matters into my own hand
then we get to the hospital on the due date and I am getting ready in a side room to welcome my baby girl and hold her
and then they tell us she needs to get hooked up to a breathing machine..
then we leave the hospital and jessicas blood pressure starts to rise
we are like naa we arent going to go in
but we had to
we are trying to leave early
all examples of trying to take matters into our own hands
instead of just trusting in the Lord…
Most of the time God brings us to uncomfortable places where
we dont have all of the answers
this is a good place to be
yet we are a people who want all of the answers before we can
take a step of faith....
but if we have all the answers are we really living by faith?
Abram and sarai got scared
they looked at their circumstances
and looked at the promise of God
and thought
…God needs our help
but dear friends
He needs your faith more than your help..
He has everything under control
sometimes it may look like we need to intervine by taking matters into our own hands
when we do this we start to operate from fear rather than faith..
abram and sarais fear was that God would not give them a child and provide an heir
therefore they had abram sleep with their servant and have a child outside of their marriage.
if they were to operate out of faith,
then they would have waited on the Lord
Wait on the Lord
Wait on the Lord
Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord!
This is not a passive agressive waiting
but it is a patient and confident waiting...
knowing that God has a good plan for your life
He is the author of your life
and that He knows best
but dont some of us continue to take matters into our own hands
Then Sarai said to Abram, “My wrong be upon you! I gave my maid into your embrace; and when she saw that she had conceived, I became despised in her eyes. The Lord judge between you and me.” So Abram said to Sarai, “Indeed your maid is in your hand; do to her as you please.” And when Sarai dealt harshly with her, she fled from her presence.
Sarai blames Abram
and again,,, WHat do you expect…
Hagar is full of pride
sarai is bitter and starts treating her very bad...
so bad that she flees from the camp and runs away..
now we see Hagar is not waiting on the Lord either..
She is taking matters into her own hands and runs away with Abrams child.
Now the Angel of the Lord found her by a spring of water in the wilderness, by the spring on the way to Shur. And He said, “Hagar, Sarai’s maid, where have you come from, and where are you going?” She said, “I am fleeing from the presence of my mistress Sarai.” The Angel of the Lord said to her, “Return to your mistress, and submit yourself under her hand.” Then the Angel of the Lord said to her, “I will multiply your descendants exceedingly, so that they shall not be counted for multitude.”
Hagar has booked it
she is by a spring of water resting
and the Angel of the Lord meets with her..
Do you know who THE angel of the Lord is?
Angel means messenger....
This is God himself
in the pre incarnate person of Jesus Christ.
we see the Angel of the Lord appear a few more times in Genisis
and He tells Hagar to go back and submit to Sarai.
He also gives her a promise...
God will multiply Hagars descendants exceedingly.
We have similar promise sarais offspring..
And the Angel of the Lord said to her: “Behold, you are with child, And you shall bear a son. You shall call his name Ishmael, Because the Lord has heard your affliction. He shall be a wild man; His hand shall be against every man, And every man’s hand against him. And he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren.”
We are introduced to Ishmael
He is the child that is born from the slave
He is not born of Gods promise
but he is the result of the works of the flesh.
Hagar and Ishmael are still loved by God
but we see the result of the people of Ishmael are the arabians
this is most of the muslim nations that we see.
In Islam, The quran follows Ishmael as the child of Gods promise
In Judaism and Christianity, we follow the promise of God to Abram and sarai this comes through Issac.
Now it is important that God loves the arabs
He wants them to come to know Him through Jesus Christ
we see Jesus reveal himself to muslims all the time
and we should be praying for these people.
The people of hamas are the descendants of Ishmael
but what many of you probably havent hear there are many christians is palestine.
People Who are descendants of Ishmael …
Then she called the name of the Lord who spoke to her, You-Are-the-God-Who-Sees; for she said, “Have I also here seen Him who sees me?” Therefore the well was called Beer Lahai Roi; observe, it is between Kadesh and Bered. So Hagar bore Abram a son; and Abram named his son, whom Hagar bore, Ishmael. Abram was eighty-six years old when Hagar bore Ishmael to Abram.
Hagar is blessed by God
And she calls Him the God who sees.
During her time of trial
and trying to take matters into her own hands
God still saw her
and met her
and ministered to her..
This is a great reminder that we have a God who sees us.
God always sees you
God always sees you
During the seasons we dont understand.
During the times we act out and take matters into our own hands
when we fail to walk by faith
God always sees us
He is ever present
and He wants to have that close personal relationship
you need to know
that no matter where your at today...
He sees you
and He wants to have that close relationship with you.
I want you all to understand Jesus is a real person.
He is alive in bodily form in heaven
and His spirit is with you at all times.
you must realize that when you sit down to pray..
He is literally right there listening
and He is comunicating by the spirit.
He sees you just like he saw Hagar
She was running away
and turning from Him
And Jesus met her
called her to repentance
and she turned back to obey Him...
Q. Do you know that God sees you?
Q. Have you been taking matters into your own hands?
Understand that He does see you,
He has the best plan for your life...
Walk by faith in Him
Wait on Him
And He will lead you to Himself.
Pray
Jesus tells her to
