1 Praise the Lord!
Blessed is the man who fears the Lord,
Who delights greatly in His commandments.
2 His descendants will be mighty on earth;
The generation of the upright will be blessed.
We live to Know Him and Make Him known:
How do we do that
We meet with Him daily
Prayer
Worship
Reading His word
I encourage you create a habit of daily meeting with God
Jesus paid too big of a price on the cross for you not to take advantage of the access He gave us to the Father
When we truly know the heart of the Father we can’t help but show and tell others about His goodness
I’m a living testament of the goodness of God
Fear of God:
Reverence and Awe
Respect
To Tremble
Fear of a Lack of His presence in our lives
Intro:
There has been of movement of Grace within the body of Christ which is a response to the hell fire and brimstone gospel of judgment and wrath within the church body
A movement from the wrath of God into the love of God
It says in word “it’s the goodness of God that leads men to repentance”
but we’ve somehow painted a picture that God is in one way or another indifferent to our sin
I believe the wrath of God was poured out on Jesus for our sin
Our redemption is grace through faith
But now we have a view God has become innocuous
Not likely given to offense
The holiness of God should be a bit traumatic for the unbeliever
And for the believer we should be forever changed
We should want to be Holy like He is Holy
I want us to dive a little deeper in the scripture we looked at last week:
1 In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple. 2 Above it stood seraphim; each one had six wings: with two he covered his face, with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. 3 And one cried to another and said:
“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts;
The whole earth is full of His glory!”
4 And the posts of the door were shaken by the voice of him who cried out, and the house was filled with smoke.
5 So I said:
“Woe is me, for I am undone!
Because I am a man of unclean lips,
And I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips;
For my eyes have seen the King,
The Lord of hosts.”
Woe is me, for I am undone
Prophets and Priests (old testament):
Priest spoke to God on behalf of the people, offering sacrifices for the people, bringing offerings and prayers
The Prophet spoke to the people on behalf of God
He wouldn’t say, what I think about this situation, or my opinion
He would say “Thus saith the Lord”
Prophecy of Prosperity:
A prophecy of prosperity:
A word of significance among the Jews to introduce good news is the word Blessed
Blessed are you among woman
Blessed are the poor in spirit
Blessed are those who mourn
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness
Pronouncing God’s blessing upon those who did certain things
A Prophecy of Woe (negative):
The other-side of this coin is a prophecy or oracle of woe
It was a grim and terrifying announcement of God’s judgment
3 Thus says the Lord:
“For three transgressions of Damascus, and for four,
I will not turn away its punishment,
Because they have threshed Gilead with implements of iron.
Woe unto you
15 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel land and sea to win one proselyte, and when he is won, you make him twice as much a son of hell as yourselves.
When Isaiah says “Woe is me for I am undone!”
His encounter with God was traumatic
to cease, cause to cease, cut off, destroy, perish
He was in deep distress because he was unworthy to be in the presence of God
He couldn’t help but realize his filthiness in the presence of a Holy God
I am undone
I’m changed forever
There is a common response to the Holiness of God in Scripture
The interesting part of this is the more righteous someone is described in scripture the more he trembles when he enters the immediate presence of God.
R.C Spourl calls this the Trauma of Holiness:
Habakkuk
Job
Moses
Isaiah
16 When I heard, my body trembled;
My lips quivered at the voice;
Rottenness entered my bones;
And I trembled in myself,
That I might rest in the day of trouble.
When he comes up to the people,
He will invade them with his troops.
6 Therefore I abhor myself,
And repent in dust and ashes.”
Jacob wrestled with God and walked away with a limp:
Think of maybe an experience that you’ve had that changed you:
Maybe it changed you for the better
Maybe it makes it so you have a hard time sleeping at night
Maybe you think differently about people or yourself
Maybe it’s something you’ve never gotten over
Oil field Trauma:

Traumatic
From then on I always remembered my lanyard
it changed me
Bout had to change my pants afterwards
If I went back to the old way of doing things
The way I used to act
Carelessness
Justification:
6 Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a live coal which he had taken with the tongs from the altar. 7 And he touched my mouth with it, and said:
“Behold, this has touched your lips;
Your iniquity is taken away,
And your sin purged.”
His sin was purged and He changed the way He talked
“It’s gone, Isaiah—all of your guilt. You don’t have to speak the curse any longer. I’m taking it away. Your sins are forgiven; they are atoned for.”
It was a searing, a cauterizing
Forever changed
Much like the trauma of God’s Holiness,
We cannot be the same once we meet Jesus:
17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
Cut off the Old man!
We have to leave our old live for HIS life
You have lay down everything to be his disciple
When we come to Jesus He not only takes away our sin but he makes us qualified
12 giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light.
We have been justified through his blood:
1 Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. 3 And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; 4 and perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5 Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
Justified: “the act of God whereby humankind is made or accounted just, or free from guilt or penalty of sin.”
You’ve become Holy because Jesus’ blood atonement
Holy blood of Christ
The only justification for any missionary’s mission, and for any preacher’s preaching, is that that person has experienced the forgiveness of God.
Holy Eucharist (communion):
27 Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. 28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup. 29 For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body. 30 For this reason many are weak and sick among you, and many sleep. 31 For if we would judge ourselves, we would not be judged. 32 But when we are judged, we are chastened by the Lord, that we may not be condemned with the world.
23 For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread; 24 and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” 25 In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.”
26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes.
Alter Call:
9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Sinners Prayer:
"God, I know that I am a sinner.
I know that I deserve the consequences of my sin.
I am trusting in Jesus Christ as my Savior.
I believe that His death and resurrection provided for my forgiveness.
I trust in Jesus and Jesus alone as my personal Lord and Savior.
Thank you Lord, for saving me and forgiving me! Amen!"
