2 Timothy 3:13–17 “13 But evil men and impostors will proceed from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. 14 You, however, continue in the things you have learned and become convinced of, knowing from whom you have learned them, 15 and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; 17 so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.”
Introduction: You know, we’ve had such a great year learning God’s Word together. But you know what, it doesn’t have to stop with our summer break. In fact, there are things that you can do as a family to continue in God’s word over the summer. What I’d like to do is give you two reasons why you should continue studying God’s Word this summer.
Because the world needs the Truth that can only come from God in His Word! (2 Ti 3:13)
The world is getting worse with evil men, people who want to take the Truth and destroy it
The world is getting worse with seducers or impostors or fakes, people who want to lead others away from the Truth.
The world needs to hear this Truth from us.
Because the Bible teaches you everything you need to know how to confidently live to please God! (2 Ti 3:14-17)
2 Ti 3:14 - Confidence in God’s Word because faithful leaders have taught you.
Friends, your leaders would not have taught these things unless they were convinced they are true!
Friends, your leaders have taught you these things because these truths have changed their lives!
2 Ti 3:15 - Confidence in God’s Word that has transformed you (salvation)
Friends, if the Lord Jesus Christ has saved you, then He has begun the work of changing you!
You know how Jesus works because He’s working in you!
2 Ti 3:16-17 - Confidence in God’s inspired (authoritative) and profitable Word that equips you to live to please the Lord
Friends, nothing is as authoritative in telling us how to live as God’s Word because it came from Him!
Friends, God’s Word equips you like no other because it teaches us about God, shows you your sin, corrects your sin, and shows you how to live to please the Lord.
Conclusion: Because it is summer break, don’t take a break from studying God’s Word. The world needs to hear these truths from us. We need these truths in order to live to please the Lord. (Review the things that you learned with your parents this year [KC - Joseph in the Fall and Fruit of the Spirit in the Spring, can even recite Galatians 5:22-23])
