Intro:
Introduction:
"Picture this: it's morning, and as you rise from your bed, you're met with the familiar creaks and groans of aging joints. If you wear glasses maybe, You reach for your glasses. You Go to the bathroom - look in the mirror, things look familiar almost to the point that you don’t even notice yourself! You make your way to the kitchen, for me it’s more like shuffling my feet towards the kitchen. maybe the coffee is on, maybe some tea, whatever it is! But this is a comforting ritual that has accompanied you through decades of life's twists and turns.
But in the routine of another day, have you ever paused to consider the marvel of your existence? Beyond the aches and pains, beyond the wrinkles and gray hairs, lies a profound truth that often goes unnoticed: you are fearfully and wonderfully made.
For those of us in the seasoned chapters of life—age 50 and beyond—the journey of self-discovery takes on a deeper resonance. We've weathered storms, scaled mountains, and navigated the winding paths of existence. Yet, in the midst of life's complexities, it's easy to overlook the sacredness of our own beings.
Today, I want to shift our perspective, I want to renew our sense of purpose, and I want to ignite a flame of hope within us.
So, right now set aside the distractions of daily life and open your heart to the possibility of encountering something special within yourselves. In these these aging bodies resides a temple—a sanctuary where the Holy Spirit dwells, calling us to honor God with every breath, every heartbeat, and every step of our journey.
19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?
20 For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.
Paul tells you and me about the sanctity of the body of the Christ Follower’s He compares it to a temple! Not just any temple, but this crazy body is still the temple of the Holy Spirit!
In this body, with it’s aches and pains dwells the presence of God! When Paul says your body is the Temple of the Holy Spirit, pause for a minute!
This comparison underscores the indwelling presence of God within each of us as believer’s as Christ Followers, as Christians!
Pause for a minute and let it soak in that your body, still represents intimacy with the Holy Spirit
Paul draws a parallel between our physical body and the temple,
In the Old Testament the temple was the dwelling place of God's Spirit!
This comparison elevates the status of the believer's body!
14 I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well.
Psalm 139:14 (NIV): "I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well."
This verse acknowledges the intricate and intentional design of the human body by God. It talks about the creation of each individual,
This verse tells you and me about the craftsmanship involved in forming every aspect of our being.
The psalmist's recognition of being fearfully and wonderfully made affirms the sanctity and significance of the human body as a masterpiece of God's creation.
Thus, it aligns with the idea presented in 1 Corinthians 6:19 that our bodies are not mere physical vessels but intricately designed temples deserving of reverence and honor as the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit!
27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.
The phrase "in his own image" talks about your identity, my identity, your purpose, my purpose
This text tells me that you and me and every human being on this earth were created to reflect God in their nature,
you and me and every human being on this earth were created to represent God in character
you and me and every human being on this earth were created to, God in their capacities.
This is what sets you and me and every human being apart from the rest of creation and gives us dignity and value.
When I look in the mirror - thats the image of God!
The image of God in in your body encompasses various aspects , including intellectual image of God, the moral image of God , the relational image of God , and the creative capacities of God.
God endowed you and me and all of humanity with rationality, free will, with morality and with the capacity for meaningful relationships, which mirrors God's own attributes.
That’s Your Body
The text says Male and Female: are created in the image of God! Both genders equally bear the divine image and share in the responsibility of stewardship over creation. The inclusion of both male and female in the image of God affirms the worth and the dignity of every individual, regardless of gender. This reminds me that every individual, regardless of race, ethnicity, socio-economic status, or any other distinguishing factor, possesses worth and dignity as a bearer of God's image.
This paints the truth about how we are to treat one another! It calls for respect, it calls for justice, and it calls for compassion toward every person, recognizing their divine identity and divine potential.
That’s Your Body
When you see your body you are looking at the image of God! When you see another human being you are seeing the image of God!
Ok let’s back up a second

God Loves You and God Loves Me
In
8 And let them make Me a sanctuary, that I may dwell among them.
Although this verse pertains to the construction of the tabernacle in the wilderness, it reflects the theme of God's desire to dwell among His people. Just as God dwelt among the Israelites in the tabernacle, He now dwells within you and me as believers through the Holy Spirit, making our bodies His temple.
So that’s why this text in Ezekiel 36 is so important
26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.
27 I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them.
In this text, God promises to give you and me - His people a new heart and put in us His Spirit. This is what enables you and me to live in obedience to Him. getting a new heart, speaks to the transformative work of the Holy Spirit in the Christian, in the believer, in the Christ follower, Getting a new spirit shapes shapes the new heart and gives us the power to walk in righteousness.
That’s in your body
Now check this out
In Is.57:15
15 For thus says the High and Lofty One Who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: “I dwell in the high and holy place, With him who has a contrite and humble spirit, To revive the spirit of the humble, And to revive the heart of the contrite ones.
15 And this is the reason: God lives forever and is holy. He is high and lifted up. He says, “I live in a high and holy place, but I also live with people who are sad and humble. I give new life to those who are humble and to those whose hearts are broken.
God is telling me and he’s telling you - He Lives in you!
His dwell with those who are humble and contrite in spirit. God is not just the lofty places , but also dwells within the hearts of His people.
Ok now, let’s go back to our foundational text
19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?
you are not your own?
means that as a believer, as a Christian, as a Christ Follower we are owned by God.
Can we go a little deeper
The statement "you are not your own" echoes the language of redemption found throughout Scripture. In 1 Corinthians 6:20, Paul specifically states, "You were bought at a price." This price refers to the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ on the cross, through which believers are redeemed from the power and penalty of sin. As redeemed individuals, believers no longer belong to themselves but to Jesus, who has purchased them with His blood.
Now even beyond the act of redemption, the concept of "you are not your own"talks about the truth of God's sovereignty over His creation.
Scripture teaches that God is the Creator and Sustainer of all things, and as such, He holds ultimate authority and ownership over every aspect of existence, including human life.
As believers we acknowledge God's sovereignty by surrendering our will, our desires, and our plans to Jesus!
Understanding that "you are not your own" is important in how we live in these bodies, how we treat these bodies, how we treat each other!
Remember you are the image and likeness of God as such how are you living your life! Does it reflect the image of God!
Knowing that I belong to God, that he paid a price for me , It challenges notions of self-centeredness, it challenges posstures of autonomy, and independence!
because I belong to God , because you belong to God - We have a responsibility to honor Him with our lives
You can’t just do you boo!!
You don’t belong to you!. My thoughts, my words, my actions need to be aligned with his will!
There are some things I can’t say our do, why because it is not in the will of the one I belong to!
My job,my goal, my desire is to now live a life that is giving glory to God!
The Late Rance Allen sang a song titled I Belong To You
the chorus
I belong to you,I belong to you
I'm yours all alone
Why don't you take me
Why don't you make me
Just what you want me to be
Remember your body is the temple where the Holy Spirit
The Spirit is in you and is a gift from God. You are no longer your own.
20 God paid a great price for you. So use your body to honor God.
Remember You no longer own Your Body
May God Bless You and Keep you
