15 And they came to Jerusalem. And he
entered the temple and began to drive out
those who sold and those who bought in the
temple, and he overturned the tables of the
money-changers and the seats of those who
sold pigeons. 16 And he would not allow
anyone to carry anything through the
temple. Mark 11
Court of the Gentiles
The Court of the Gentiles in the first century Jerusalem temple
was about 35 acres in size. It was the largest of the courts and
surrounded the entire temple area. The Court of the Gentiles was
the outer court of the temple where non-Jews could pray to
Yahweh, the God of Israel. It was also where Jesus taught,
sacrificial animals were sold, and the “cleansing of the temple”
incident took place.

17 And he was teaching them and saying to them, “Is it
not written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer
for all the nations’? But you have made it a den of
robbers.” 18 And the chief priests and the scribes heard it
and were seeking a way to destroy him, for they feared
him, because all the crowd was astonished at his
teaching.
Jesus Sacrifices Himself to Honor
The Father’s House of Prayer
Matthew 27:51
And behold, the curtain of the temple
was torn in two, from top to bottom.
Matthew 27:51
14 Since then we have a great high priest
who has passed through the heavens,
Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our
confession. 15 For we do not have a high
priest who is unable to sympathize with
our weaknesses, but one who in every
respect has been tempted as we are, yet
without sin. 16 Let us then with
confidence draw near to the throne of
grace, that we may receive mercy and
find grace to help in time of need.

The Holy Spirit delivers
His House of Prayer
in us
Acts 2
Acts 2 ESV
2 When the day of Pentecost arrived,
they were all together in one
place. 2 And suddenly there came from
heaven a sound like a mighty rushing
wind, and it filled the entire house
where they were sitting. 3 And divided
tongues as of fire appeared to them and
rested on each one of them.
4 And they were all filled with the Holy
Spirit and began to speak in other
tongues as the Spirit gave them
utterance.
5 Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem
Jews, devout men from every nation
under heaven.
Are We a House of Prayer?
Are You a House of Prayer?
Mark 11:17
42 And they devoted themselves to the
apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the
breaking of bread and the prayers. 43 And
awe came upon every soul, and many
wonders and signs were being done through
the apostles.
Acts 2
46 And day by day, attending the
temple together and breaking bread in their
homes, they received their food with glad
and generous hearts, 47 praising God
and having favor with all the people. And
the Lord added to their number day by day
those who were being saved.
