Baptism

Tonight we are having a special moment for a couple of the students, and their brother. You all know Grant, and Daron, but they have two older brothers as well, and Tyler also wanted to get baptized.
Before we actually baptize them I just wanted to talk briefly about what baptism is.
Why do we baptize?
Well we baptize because of the example that we were shown by Jesus.
Matthew 3:13–17 NIV
Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. But John tried to deter him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?” Jesus replied, “Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.” Then John consented. As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”
Is Baptism required for salvation?
No
Luke 23:42–43 NIV
Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.”
So why do we baptize
There is nothing special about the water, other than whatever the City of Wapak may decide to put in it.
We get baptized to tell people around us, as a public declaration that I am a follower of Jesus.
