Matthew 7:24–27 (KJV 1900)
Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:
And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.
This is the conclusion to Jesus teaching of his sermon on the mount which he began in Matthew chapter 5. Where he essentially laid the behavioral foundation for his followers or disciples. He teaches and details multiple topics including praying, fasting, marriage, forgiveness and other topics. What we know about Jesus Sermon on the Mount is that is seemed at times a counter to the law and we see multiple times where it extended the expected behavior beyond the law of Moses. He then in his conclusion says whoever hears and obeys, he will liken them unto a wise man.
He will compare them to a man who obtains knowledge and applies it. That’s what wisdom is, it’s applied knowledge!
