Hebrews 1:1–4 ESV
Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become as much superior to angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs.
The greek word used here is usually translated as “reflection” or “radiance” because of the connection between glory and light. This is best understood as the Son radiating God’s glory
When you think of glory and light used in this specific context… verses like
Isaiah 60:1 ESV
Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you.
2 Corinthians 4:4–6 ESV
In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. For what we proclaim is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, with ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake. For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
Revelation 21:23 ESV
And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb.
No need of sun or moon but radiance of the glory of Christ will shine forth.
We have all been in dark season and bright seasons of life. Those who have followed Jesus for awhile may not get knocked off their horse when rubber hits the road…sure shaken but cling to jesus. Others may not know to cling to jesus.
He is our steadiness where we radiate Jesus when we go through the highs and lows. When there is no natural light from sun or moon he is that lamp of light. We have the opportunity to radiate his glory.
What is his glory? His divine presence and splendor. The reference to God’s glory also relates to creation, God’s mighty acts, and His presence.
So as we go about our day to day let’s walk with this in mind. We radiate his glory. We are His creation who reflect his mighty acts, as carriers of his presence.
