The Signs of the Messiah

There are many times when people ask for proof-
“PROVE IT”
the sad thing is that we have become a society that doesn’t know what we believe or why we believe it
What is the Evidence for why we believe what we believe and why do we act on our beliefs?
The situation that the person might be the worse thing in the world- yet when you offer hope and the response IS TO REMAIN WHERE THEY ARE:
Matthew 16:1 CSB
The Pharisees and Sadducees approached, and tested him, asking him to show them a sign from heaven.
The situation these people where in:
They were captive by an oppressive Roman government
they had been captives for a long time- Things were changing
These religious leaders had made a family business that made their money off the people
They didn’t offer hope
Yet the Hope of the world offered them something new and they wouldn’t take it
John 3:19–21 CSB
This is the judgment: The light has come into the world, and people loved darkness rather than the light because their deeds were evil. For everyone who does evil hates the light and avoids it, so that his deeds may not be exposed. But anyone who lives by the truth comes to the light, so that his works may be shown to be accomplished by God.”

From Darkness to light

When we step into the Light it is God who works in us

The Problem:

I have found that when is comes to God’s word and the even the healing power of God - there is more then enough evidence to prove it
Historical artifacts
Manuscripts and transcripts
Textual criticism
Dead sea scroll
Prophecies fulfilled!
Israel becoming a nation
These are all evidences of God
the Problem isn’t the evidence- it the person and the reason why they come
The Pharisees couldn’t deny the working of Jesus, but they would confess that He was the Messiah
They Saw and they wouldn’t believe

How we Come Matters

Matthew 16:1 CSB
The Pharisees and Sadducees approached, and tested him, asking him to show them a sign from heaven.
The Pharisees wanted a sign and there were plenty of Signs
BUT NOTICE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE PHARISEES AND THE WAY OTHERS APPROACH JESUS
the women with the blood issue- “If I can just touch Him”
The Gentile Mother- “Have mercy on Me my daughter is tormented” Matthew 15:21-28
They came in Faith needing a sign, but they believed in Faith that Jesus was the answer
The Pharisees don’t believe and want a sign - yet they should have been the ones who knew and proclaimed the Messiah, instead they rejected and attacked
they tested him- the word means to tempt or to try-
they are the type of people who say, “ok, give me more proof”
EVEN THOUGH IT IS SO CLEAR AND OBVIOUS.

FAITH IS THE KEY- FAITH MOTIVATES OUR CONFESSION AND MOVES US TOWARD JESUS

FAITH COMES FROM THE HEART
Jesus Response shows the condition of the Heart- BECAUSE THERE WERE MORE THEN ENOUGH EVIDENCE :
Matthew 16:2–4 CSB
He replied, “When evening comes you say, ‘It will be good weather because the sky is red.’ And in the morning, ‘Today will be stormy because the sky is red and threatening.’ You know how to read the appearance of the sky, but you can’t read the signs of the times. An evil and adulterous generation demands a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah.” Then he left them and went away.
RATHER THEN COMING TO HIM AS SAVIOR THEY SAID PROVE IT-
YOU NNED TO NOTICE THAT PEOPLE CAME TO JESUS WITH NEEDS AND HE MET THEIR NEEDS
The proof was found as they came in faith
THEY WEREN’T LOOK FOR A SIGN FOR THEM TO COME
the sign was a response to them coming in faith
THEY CAME BECAUSE HE WAS THE ONLY ONE WHO COULD SAVE, HEAL AND DELIVER.
They came to Him in Hope and found Him to be their hope!

THERE IS EVIDENCE FOR OUR FAITH

READ THE SIGNS- THE EVIDENCE IS THERE
The Fulfillment of the word of God was the Sign that Jesus was the Messiah sent from God!
when the Pharisees asked for a sign, they had more then enough evidence
Isaiah 35:5–6 CSB
Then the eyes of the blind will be opened, and the ears of the deaf unstopped. Then the lame will leap like a deer, and the tongue of the mute will sing for joy, for water will gush in the wilderness, and streams in the desert;
Jesus Fulfilled this prophecy- and they understood that
John 11:47 CSB
So the chief priests and the Pharisees convened the Sanhedrin and were saying, “What are we going to do since this man is doing many signs?

JESUS’ WARNING

Matthew 16:5–12 CSB
The disciples reached the other shore, and they had forgotten to take bread. Then Jesus told them, “Watch out and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.” They were discussing among themselves, “We didn’t bring any bread.” Aware of this, Jesus said, “You of little faith, why are you discussing among yourselves that you do not have bread? Don’t you understand yet? Don’t you remember the five loaves for the five thousand and how many baskets you collected? Or the seven loaves for the four thousand and how many large baskets you collected? Why is it you don’t understand that when I told you, ‘Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees,’ it wasn’t about bread?” Then they understood that he had not told them to beware of the leaven in bread, but of the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
Don’t forget the fishes and loaves experiences in your life!
the times of Healing
the times of Provision
the times of Joys
the Times of Deliverance
These events reveal Jesus and His work
1 Peter 2:24 CSB
He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree; so that, having died to sins, we might live for righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.
WE have salvation because He bore it
and We have Healing because He bore
Don’t forget who God is and How He moves
Don’t forget His word and His promises
Hosea 4:6 CSB
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I will reject you from serving as my priest. Since you have forgotten the law of your God, I will also forget your sons.
JESUS IS DEALING WITH WHAT MAKES SOMEONE TRULY FOR GOD-
IT ISN’T RELIGIOUS RULES
IT ISN’T EVEN ABOUT HOW HARD YOUR TRY
Romans 3:23 CSB
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God;
YOU WILL STILL FALL
IT ISN’T ABOUT KNOWING THE RIGHT PEOPLE
IT ISN’T ABOUT BEING APART OF A RELIGIOUS ORGANIZATION
THE POPE CAN’T SAVE YOU
I CAN’T SAVE YOU
WHAT CAN SAVE?
Romans 10:9 CSB
If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

Confession is what we believe:

Think of every bible story you have ever heard and most likely they come with a confession that leads to action:
David confessed as He went to battle with Goliath
With Salvation there is a confession and a coming to Christ -
BUT JUST AS THOSE OLD TESTAMENT HAD AN OUTCOME THAT CAME WITH THE CONFESSION:
OUR CONFESSION HAS AN OUTCOME:
Matthew 16:13–14 CSB
When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others, Elijah; still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”
Public belief
Jesus Wants their confession, not what everyone else thinks- WHAT DO YOU BELIEVE:
Matthew 16:15–16 CSB
“But you,” he asked them, “who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”
Our Confession Matters- “You are My Messiah!”
My Deliverer
MY Healer
The one who baptises Me with Fire
My Salvation
When we Confess Christ we confess the work that He Has accomplished
HE IS JESUS CHRIST, MY MESSIAH!
IT IS BE HIS STRIPES THAT I AM HEALED- BECAUSE HE IS JESUS CHRIST MY MESSIAH
IT IS THROUGH HIM THAT I OVERCOME ALL THE ATTACKS OF THE ENEMY ON MY LIFE-
BECAUSE HE IS JESUS CHRIST MY MESSIAH
Psalm 103:1–3 CSB
My soul, bless the Lord, and all that is within me, bless his holy name. My soul, bless the Lord, and do not forget all his benefits. He forgives all your iniquity; he heals all your diseases.
THIS IS TRUE IN MY LIFE BECAUSE OF JESUS CHRIST IS MY MESSIAH!

JESUS’ RESPONSE TO THAT CONFESSION

Matthew 16:17–18 CSB
Jesus responded, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but my Father in heaven. And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overpower it.
WHAT COMES WITH THAT CONFESSION- BLESSING: the Confession leads to the Blessing
Romans 10:9 CSB
If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
Salvation is the access point to the life that God has for and it is a Wonderful life
Ephesians 1:3 CSB
Blessed is the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavens in Christ.
Jesus Says, John 10:10
John 10:10 CSB
A thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I have come so that they may have life and have it in abundance.
It is a blessed life, a life that is abundant which means overflowing
Ephesians 2:1–10 CSB
And you were dead in your trespasses and sins in which you previously walked according to the ways of this world, according to the ruler of the power of the air, the spirit now working in the disobedient. We too all previously lived among them in our fleshly desires, carrying out the inclinations of our flesh and thoughts, and we were by nature children under wrath as the others were also. But God, who is rich in mercy, because of his great love that he had for us, made us alive with Christ even though we were dead in trespasses. You are saved by grace! He also raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavens in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might display the immeasurable riches of his grace through his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. For you are saved by grace through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is God’s gift—not from works, so that no one can boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time for us to do.
The gift of salvation is the doorway into a life of blessing!
“PRAISE GOD FROM WHOM ALL BLESSING FLOW!”
James 1:17 CSB
Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.

The confession opens the door of authority

Matthew 16:18–19 CSB
And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overpower it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will have been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will have been loosed in heaven.”
The Church is built on the power of the Gospel
The Gospel is the proclaim that Jesus Christ is the Messiah- the Savior sent from God for the Sins of the World!
The Authority is over the effects of sin
sickness
disease
And the devil Himself
We are free from His power
he has no control or say over our lives
WE are free
John 8:36 CSB
So if the Son sets you free, you really will be free.
We have been set free
SAY: “I AM FREE!”
Acts 10:38 CSB
how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, and how he went about doing good and healing all who were under the tyranny of the devil, because God was with him.
and Now I have the authority to bind the things on earth that don’t align with the things of Heaven!
Matthew 10:1 CSB
Summoning his twelve disciples, he gave them authority over unclean spirits, to drive them out and to heal every disease and sickness.
We need to walk in our confession
Remeber who Jesus is and the work He has done in your life
Matthew 16:21–23 CSB
From then on Jesus began to point out to his disciples that it was necessary for him to go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders, chief priests, and scribes, be killed, and be raised the third day. Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him, “Oh no, Lord! This will never happen to you!” Jesus turned and told Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a hindrance to me because you’re not thinking about God’s concerns but human concerns.”
He was crushed for Me
His body was broken for me
