Introduction:
Good morning Church family. Last week we talk about who, and what Jesus Christ had given up in order to bring mankind back to God, this week we are going to be looking at the importance his life. today we are going to be looking at the Importance of Genealogies of Jesus Christ The Announcements for Both Mary and Zachariah, and the Birth of Christ.
The importance of the Genealogies of Jesus Christ:
The importance of the Genealogies of Jesus Christ:
one of the few things that fascinate mankind is our history. Today people want know who they are, where did their blood line begin, and the history behind their family. today in order do that we have created a DNA kit for those who lost family trees. So why is this important? well one family tree is very important to us as Christian’s because it show the Blood line to Jesus Christ there totally of two Genealogies For Jesus Christ. The first Come Matt 1:1-17
The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the Son of David, the Son of Abraham:
Abraham begot Isaac, Isaac begot Jacob, and Jacob begot Judah and his brothers. Judah begot Perez and Zerah by Tamar, Perez begot Hezron, and Hezron begot Ram. Ram begot Amminadab, Amminadab begot Nahshon, and Nahshon begot Salmon. Salmon begot Boaz by Rahab, Boaz begot Obed by Ruth, Obed begot Jesse, and Jesse begot David the king.
David the king begot Solomon by her who had been the wife of Uriah. Solomon begot Rehoboam, Rehoboam begot Abijah, and Abijah begot Asa. Asa begot Jehoshaphat, Jehoshaphat begot Joram, and Joram begot Uzziah. Uzziah begot Jotham, Jotham begot Ahaz, and Ahaz begot Hezekiah. Hezekiah begot Manasseh, Manasseh begot Amon, and Amon begot Josiah. Josiah begot Jeconiah and his brothers about the time they were carried away to Babylon.
And after they were brought to Babylon, Jeconiah begot Shealtiel, and Shealtiel begot Zerubbabel. Zerubbabel begot Abiud, Abiud begot Eliakim, and Eliakim begot Azor. Azor begot Zadok, Zadok begot Achim, and Achim begot Eliud. Eliud begot Eleazar, Eleazar begot Matthan, and Matthan begot Jacob. And Jacob begot Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus who is called Christ.
So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations, from David until the captivity in Babylon are fourteen generations, and from the captivity in Babylon until the Christ are fourteen generations.
here in the Gospel of Matthew we see that this line is from Joseph, is to show the Jewish people that Jesus was the Messiah that they were looking for. from this Genealogy from Matthew we see the greatest Patriarch Abraham, and the greatest king of the Isreal people King David. Through the scriptures of the Old testament we see that Jesus Christ is a descended of both of these men. lets turn in our Bibles to Gen 22:18
In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice.”
here in Gen we see that Promise we can also see this same promise in Gal 3:16
Now to Abraham and his Seed were the promises made. He does not say, “And to seeds,” as of many, but as of one, “And to your Seed,” who is Christ.
Then if we continue on with David we see it in 2nd Sam 7:16
And your house and your kingdom shall be established forever before you. Your throne shall be established forever.” ’ ”
Here God makes a promise to David, which is also reference in the New Testament in John 7:42.
Has not the Scripture said that the Christ comes from the seed of David and from the town of Bethlehem, where David was?”
with the little information we have, We can also see that Matthew had divided his genealogy into three parts starting with Abraham to David. David to deportation of Israelite. Deportation to Jesus christ. Matthew used other genealogies to complete his, we also see that Matthew had left out several others names that could have been mention. the reasoning behind this was because Jewish people were concerned with showing lineage, and not just listing every single name, Secondly the Jewish people prefer neat listings. another thing interesting about this genealogy if we actually took the time look at some of these people who are mention in the list. we would find out that some of them were actually horrible kings in Isreal history. the parallel genealogy of Luke in Luke 3:23-38
Now Jesus Himself began His ministry at about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, the son of Heli, the son of Matthat, the son of Levi, the son of Melchi, the son of Janna, the son of Joseph, the son of Mattathiah, the son of Amos, the son of Nahum, the son of Esli, the son of Naggai, the son of Maath, the son of Mattathiah, the son of Semei, the son of Joseph, the son of Judah, the son of Joannas, the son of Rhesa, the son of Zerubbabel, the son of Shealtiel, the son of Neri, the son of Melchi, the son of Addi, the son of Cosam, the son of Elmodam, the son of Er, the son of Jose, the son of Eliezer, the son of Jorim, the son of Matthat, the son of Levi, the son of Simeon, the son of Judah, the son of Joseph, the son of Jonan, the son of Eliakim, the son of Melea, the son of Menan, the son of Mattathah, the son of Nathan, the son of David, the son of Jesse, the son of Obed, the son of Boaz, the son of Salmon, the son of Nahshon, the son of Amminadab, the son of Ram, the son of Hezron, the son of Perez, the son of Judah, the son of Jacob, the son of Isaac, the son of Abraham, the son of Terah, the son of Nahor, the son of Serug, the son of Reu, the son of Peleg, the son of Eber, the son of Shelah, the son of Cainan, the son of Arphaxad, the son of Shem, the son of Noah, the son of Lamech, the son of Methuselah, the son of Enoch, the son of Jared, the son of Mahalalel, the son of Cainan, the son of Enosh, the son of Seth, the son of Adam, the son of God.
the difference between the two Genealogies is that Matthew’s main focus was to show the legal lineage of Jesus, while Luke was showing the kinship of Jesus with all the people. both of these genealogies leave no doubt for the Prophecy in 2nd Sam 7:16
And your house and your kingdom shall be established forever before you. Your throne shall be established forever.” ’ ”
with all of this in mind look back to were it all begin starting with Abraham to all the way to Joseph and Mary we can see that God’s plan coming together here. This allow us to move to the next point.
The Announcements of John the Baptist:
The Announcements of John the Baptist:
as we study the Bible there are two announcements the first being the the forerunner of Jesus Christ his cousin John. Luke gives account on the birth of John the Baptist. Luk 1:5-25
There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the division of Abijah. His wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth. And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless. But they had no child, because Elizabeth was barren, and they were both well advanced in years.
So it was, that while he was serving as priest before God in the order of his division, according to the custom of the priesthood, his lot fell to burn incense when he went into the temple of the Lord. And the whole multitude of the people was praying outside at the hour of incense.
Then an angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing on the right side of the altar of incense. And when Zacharias saw him, he was troubled, and fear fell upon him.
But the angel said to him, “Do not be afraid, Zacharias, for your prayer is heard; and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you shall call his name John. And you will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth. For he will be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink. He will also be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother’s womb. And he will turn many of the children of Israel to the Lord their God. He will also go before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, ‘to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children,’ and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”
And Zacharias said to the angel, “How shall I know this? For I am an old man, and my wife is well advanced in years.”
And the angel answered and said to him, “I am Gabriel, who stands in the presence of God, and was sent to speak to you and bring you these glad tidings. But behold, you will be mute and not able to speak until the day these things take place, because you did not believe my words which will be fulfilled in their own time.”
And the people waited for Zacharias, and marveled that he lingered so long in the temple. But when he came out, he could not speak to them; and they perceived that he had seen a vision in the temple, for he beckoned to them and remained speechless.
So it was, as soon as the days of his service were completed, that he departed to his own house. Now after those days his wife Elizabeth conceived; and she hid herself five months, saying, “Thus the Lord has dealt with me, in the days when He looked on me, to take away my reproach among people.”
from this passage here in Luke we see that Luke talks about life of Zacharias, little bit of history about Zacharias is a descendant of Aaron the priest, Ex 28:1
“Now take Aaron your brother, and his sons with him, from among the children of Israel, that he may minister to Me as priest, Aaron and Aaron’s sons: Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.
if we continue with the look at this passage his wife Elizabeth was also a descendant of Aaron, both of them were upright, godly individuals. the only thing that marred their life was that had grown old without any children. we can also look at that the Priest sect was divided into 24 divisions or orders. 1st Chron 24:1-19. as we studied the gospels we see that Zacharias was part of Abijah division 1st Chron 24:10
the seventh to Hakkoz, the eighth to Abijah,
