In Genesis 2 we come to a document that’s some 3,500 years old, compiled by Moses at some point during his time as Israel’s leader when the people were out of Egypt but wandering in the wilderness, looking for home. How were they to understand themselves, their escape, their failures, their pain, and their hope? Their crisis was one we still have today: identity. Who were they? One way to answer that question was to look to their origin, to their genesis, and that's what Moses does for them in crafting these creation narratives. Like a trip back to your hometown, Genesis reminds us who we are.
