Core Values

Full transparency:
We are working on this as a church
Since Sarah and I have taken over the church, this is the thing that we have been trying to navigate the most
Creating Culture:
Creating culture is so important in church, your personal relationship with God, your family, your ministry or business
I want to dive into some habits that have helped me to create culture within myself, my family and with the staff here at the church
Culture may not seem important in your household but either you define it or it defines you
People ask me for help with their marriage
Set a culture
Have a standard
Repeating rhythms of culture
The goal is not to come up with catchy words and phrases. This is not a marketing campaign. The goal is to hear the voice of God and create a culture that pleases Him. Not every idea or thought will be left at the end. The goal is to please the Lord, not that what we say is used.
Exodus 6:3 NKJV
3 I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, as God Almighty, but by My name Lord I was not known to them.
God is apart of everything we do
We know Him by the Bible
But he appears in different ways and speaks to us differently than the church down the street
How is God speaking to you?
What is your business going to differently than the last generation
Or competitor
Maybe see something that you don’t like or something you can do better
Creating Culture:
If you’re the leader, your voice carries more weight
People at Netflix demanding to the CEO that Dave Chapelle resigned
Shut up!
But you should want input
Remember you have the final say so speak last
Jeff Bezos speaks last
Let other people’e voice be heard
The leader comes up with the final say
Why:
Genesis 11:6 NKJV
6 And the Lord said, “Indeed the people are one and they all have one language, and this is what they begin to do; now nothing that they propose to do will be withheld from them.
Tower of Babel
He confused their language and the worked stopped.
God Himself communicates that when we are “one people” and we have “one language” then we are unstoppable.
One of the greatest roadblocks of the church is the lack of health that plagues many churches today.
Building a culture that looks like heaven gives a church that is already “one people” the ability to have “one language” so that the work that God calls them too will be unstoppable.
Once Culture is built it easier to Identify who gets it and who doesn’t
Also easy to see where corrections need to be made
Attitude adjustments
One of the biggest things that plague the work industry is not the lack of standards or rules but a lack of healthy culture
The Why
Judges 12:5–6 NKJV
5 The Gileadites seized the fords of the Jordan before the Ephraimites arrived. And when any Ephraimite who escaped said, “Let me cross over,” the men of Gilead would say to him, “Are you an Ephraimite?” If he said, “No,” 6 then they would say to him, “Then say, ‘Shibboleth’!” And he would say, “Sibboleth,” for he could not pronounce it right. Then they would take him and kill him at the fords of the Jordan. There fell at that time forty-two thousand Ephraimites.
Definition of language allows the leadership to know who is understanding culture
Shows the difference between leaders and those want to be seen as leaders (THIS IS HUGE)
You say that you’re a leader but you don’t talk like a leader you don’t act like one
You’re not a leader!
Void of this clarity of vision and language, your church, business or family will be chasing multiple targets
Your leaders will not have clarity on how to lead themselves
Or Who they should look to when empowering the next level of leaders.
What are you looking for? a warm body is not the answer!
Hiring for need instead of culture- you will be disappointed
Often spend more time fixing mistakes and messes than moving foreword
Without a culture to hold people accountable to:
Your congregation or business will be left with the strongest or most dominant personality in the room becoming the leader
Habakkuk 2:2 NKJV
2 Then the Lord answered me and said: “Write the vision And make it plain on tablets, That he may run who reads it.
Proverbs 29:18 NKJV
18 Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; But happy is he who keeps the law.
Questions to ask to define/develop/discover your vision:
What is God asking us to do?
If you cut us open, what do we bleed?
If we could only accomplish one thing?
Is it measurable?
Can I know if I accomplished it or not?
If someone attends on Sunday, can they fulfil our vision on Monday?
Take 10 min and think about a vision maybe for you family, business, ministry
Think of one scripture that defines you as a person
Everything that you are doing should be pointing you to this one thing
Sentence starter ideas:
The vision of ... is to
.... Exists to ...
Our vision is to...
Hebrews 10:23 NKJV
23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.
Values:
What do you do at your best?
Matthew 5:1–14 NKJV
1 And seeing the multitudes, He went up on a mountain, and when He was seated His disciples came to Him. 2 Then He opened His mouth and taught them, saying: 3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 4 Blessed are those who mourn, For they shall be comforted. 5 Blessed are the meek, For they shall inherit the earth. 6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled. 7 Blessed are the merciful, For they shall obtain mercy. 8 Blessed are the pure in heart, For they shall see God. 9 Blessed are the peacemakers, For they shall be called sons of God. 10 Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11 “Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. 12 Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you. 13 “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men. 14 “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.
2. Core Values:
The Word (2 Tim. 3:16-17)
The Bible is the living, breathing word of God. It is the foundation of every service, event, or class we offer. It is the baseline of everything we do as a church body. The word, not culture, sets the standard in our services.
Presence (Exodus 33:14-15)
We value the presence of God and the Holy Spirit above all else. Without His presence we are just playing church.
Excellence (Colossians 3:23)
We owe God nothing less than our best. From cleaning toilets to kids church- there’s no task too small to not do it unto the Lord.
Generosity (2 Corinthians 9:11-12)
We are on a mission to create a reputation of extreme generosity in our community. God freely gave to us so in turn we give to others. Our generosity is one of our biggest tools to share about the goodness of God!
Joy(Psalm 16:11)
Ministry should be fun. There is no greater joy than being in the will of God and in His presence is where we desire to be always.
Questions for your values:
God, what are Your values for this house?
Who are we when we are at our best?
Who are you when you are at your worst?
passive aggressive
Negative
Complaining
Tired
When money is tight do let it drive decisions, instead of being generous
Our Values become guardrails that hold us to a higher standard!
A value counteracts the negative
Come up with 2 core values for you, your house, your ministry or business(Just two)
Have a scripture to accompany it (I can help if needed)
Unique Characteristic:
What makes YOU unique or different?
Why does God want us to have this church or business?
What may be the unique assignment or calling that is on our church or business?
What will never change about you?
Building the kingdom with the people who build America
Leadership Standards:
Who you empower
Who is trustworthy
Definable
Able to understand and accomplish
Measurable
Able to be held accountable
Standards of Leadership:
Daily
We daily set aside time to meet with the Creator of the universe, we seek to know Him more intimately every day
Servants
We operate through servant-leadership. No one is above performing a task. This church has and will continue to be built by chair stackers.
Problem Solvers
We don’t bring up problems without a solution because that would be camouflaged complaining. We are not complainers. We are solution-minded people.
Confrontation
We have healthy confrontation, by first praying about it and bringing it to the individual it involves. If that’s not enough, we go to the next level of leadership. We don’t talk about the issue with anyone it doesn’t involve- that’s gossip.
Tithe
We believe in the tithe. We believe that the tithe is holy and a tangible way we can honor God. We are good stewards of the tithe and our finances.
Teachable
We are teachable! We are striving to always learn and grow into Christian maturity. Pride has no foothold in our life because we know no one can ever “arrive” at perfection.
Sabbath
We rest in the goodness of God and prioritize doing ministry that is healthy, not only to us but to our families and relationships.
How is it communicated in meetings?
How often do we communicate culture and to what audiences?
How do we equip people to build culture?
How do we hold people accountable to culture?
Come up with two Leadership standards for you, your family, your ministry or business
