We have covered few things at this point;
Creation: God made a perfect earth and dwelled among the people and all the earth was perfect. no injustice, all peace, all beauty and everything was wonderful and the way it should be
Fall: human kind chose to rebel against what God had created. this did 2 things
broke the relationship with God
poisoned/vandalized the space
There has been a need for redemption since this happened
Through out the whole OT we see pictures and need for redemption
who words used in this the OT are redeemer, kinsman-redeemer, ransom
there is a need for redemption
one picture would be the people of Israel being led out by Moses. Moses serves as a picture of liberation and freedom
one of the best is how we see Boaz redeem ruth. who was trapped in her situation but we see a loving kindness that went far beyond what is required
the other picture we see is the sacrificial system
Need for the sacrifice
Need for the sacrifice
God has made a beautiful space
The evil that human kind commits goes against God vandalizes that space
the evil should be removed
God loves his people and does not want them to die.
God allows animals to serve as a substitute in the sacrifices for atonement
from here since the land has been stained by our sin or vandalized the blood of this sacrifice allows for purification
The atonement is required because of the peoples rebel. purification enables to preist to enter into a holy space which has been cleaned of the problems that occur due to humans sinful actions
however the problems of human sinfulness remained the atonement merely covered up the evil of the people.
There was a hope amongst the people that this system would end as from its inception there was a promise of full redemption
1 Who has believed what he has heard from us? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed? 2 For he grew up before him like a young plant, and like a root out of dry ground; he had no form or majesty that we should look at him, and no beauty that we should desire him. 3 He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; and as one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not. 4 Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. 5 But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed.
This was the hope and promise of the sacrifice to come.
we see this happen in through and as the person of Jesus
In every case of redemption we see is the people are trapped in situation they could not get out of and there is a need for and a hope for the full redemption.
Redemption in Christ
Redemption in Christ
In christ we see the redemption fulfilled.
Explain what jesus did
8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
13 He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. 15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.
we see the effects of the fall come un done through Jesus actions of going to the cross for us.
Redemption (apolutrósis) refers supremely to the work of Christ on our behalf, whereby he purchases us, he ransoms us, at the price of his own life, securing our deliverance from the bondage and condemnation of sin. The New Testament speaks of Christ’s saving work in this way frequently. - Ligon Duncan
21 so that, as sin reigned in death, grace also might reign through righteousness leading to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Conclusion
Conclusion
Redemption is What we call being saved
anyone who is a chrsitian is someone who has being redeemed. not somoens who is perfect
rather a fallen sinner who realized it and accepted the free gift of eternal life
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
redemption is the undoing of the fall.
