I want to start with this quote:
We, through prayers of intercession, meet the powers of darkness, enforcing the victory of Christ accomplished when He met them in His work of intercession.
1 John 3:8 ESV
8 Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil.
We talked about this verse Sunday morning, but there is a different aspect of this verse I want to preach from tonight. This is why scripture is so awesome. You can take one verse and apply it to so many faucets of life.
The term destroy comes from the Greek word lou
Luo- melt, break, beat something to pieces or untie something that is bound. Legal meaning: to dissolve or void a contract or anything that legally binds.
Sin legally binds us to Satan. We give him a land lease into our lives. To break away from sin we must dissolve the legal contract that we made. That’s why sometimes sin is so hard to overcome.
Galatians 6:2 ESV
2 Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.
Here’s the issue with the Christian’s interpretation of this verse. We see this verse and we think it states to come along side someone and bear the load with the,.
The word bear is anechomai
Anechomai- to hold up against a thing.
Kind of like a stake to a tomato plant. To support.
But there is another defintion of bear
Bastazo- to lift or carry away. To remove it.
This is the word used in Galatians 6:2
Remove another burden’s, and so fulfil the Law of Christ. We are taking Christ’s death through the power of prayer and applying to people who can’t apply it themselves. This doesn’t make them saved, but it’s a softening of the heart so that people can eventually receive Christ.
Psalm 103:12 ESV
12 as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us.
So why does this all matter. Well lets look at
Colossians 1:24 AMP
24 [Even] now I rejoice in the midst of my sufferings on your behalf. And in my own person I am making up whatever is still lacking and remains to be completed [on our part] of Christ’s afflictions, for the sake of His body, which is the church.
Here’s why Friday’s are advsanced level faith. We, God’s people, are making up whatever is STILL lacking and remains to be completed of Christ’s afflictions
What do you mean Pastor Christ said it is finished. He completed the work. Than how are we picking up what’s lacking?
Here’s our part and how it ties into intercession:
a completed legal document can’t do anything unless it’s first applied. You can obtain an eviction notice from the judge, but unless it’s hung on a door it’s useless.
We aren’t redoing Christ’s sacrifice. We are representing it, delivering it, and applying it.
Let’s look at Joshua to put this in persepctive. I was reading this not to long ago in the bible recap
Joshua Ch 10 tellsus that Israel defeated the 5 Canaanite armies. Understand Joshua is a picture of Christ in this scenario. Joshua ordered the kings to be brought to Him and according to custom He was supposed to place his foot on the necks of the kings to dispaly his victory and conquest and then kill the 5 kings.
NT
Colossians 2:15 ESV
15 He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him.
Christ put rulers and Authorities-this custom is what this verse is talking about. It isn’t just a killing them thing. It’s a humiliating them thing.
Joshua, However, did something different and prophetic at the same time. Joshua summond his soldiers and had the soldiers put thier feet on the next of this king. Christ- did the work ,but he has given us the victory to apply.
Ephesians 2:6 ESV
6 and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,
We are raised up with Christ. Chrsit conquered the armies we put our feet on their necks.
Romans 16:20 ESV
20 The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
Luke 10:19 ESV
19 Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you.
Christ’s Authority my feet. Christ’s victory my application.
Psalm 110:1 ESV
1 The Lord says to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies your footstool.”
Until I make your enemies. Chrsit did his part. Now it’s time for us do our part
Psalm 110:2–3 ESV
2 The Lord sends forth from Zion your mighty scepter. Rule in the midst of your enemies! 3 Your people will offer themselves freely on the day of your power, in holy garments; from the womb of the morning, the dew of your youth will be yours.
The word power here is Chayil- Amry
We are His Army. We are His power. We are capturing and conquering.
Joshua 1:3 ESV
3 Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given to you, just as I promised to Moses.
the word tread is Darak- involve the concept of violence and war. the bending of a bow. God was telling them that all they had been given was theirs, but they had to go to war and violently take it.
Intercession is yours, but you must be willing to violently take it by force.
