A godly mother is one that

A Psalm of David
Being Seen (vs. 1-3)
The heavens
declare the glory of God-
Glory- “kebod” heaviness, burden, reputation, importance, splendor
God-“el” the supernatural being who originated and rules over the universe
and the sky above- “expanse” Genesis 1:6–8 “And God said, “Let there be an expanse in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters.” And God made the expanse and separated the waters that were under the expanse from the waters that were above the expanse. And it was so. And God called the expanse Heaven. And there was evening and there was morning, the second day.”
proclaims his handiwork- If His created works warrent this kind of response, image the response to the creator Himself?
Day to day
pours out speech
and night to night
reveals knowledge
There is no speech
nor are there words
whose voice is not heard- Rom. 1:18-20. God speaks in a universal language through His creation.
Being heard (v. 4)
Their voice- “their measuring line”
goes out through all the earth
the words
to the end of the world
in them (voice and words)
he has set a tent for the sun- everyone feels the effects of the sun! All of these things are a backdrop for the major attraction
Being felt (vs. 5-6)
which comes out
like a bridegroom leaving his chamber- in their culture it was all about the groom setting the timeline, when he left his chamber, word was sent to get ready quick! Something that has been anticipated is now happening, it is exciting.
like a strong man
runs its course with joy- I am not a runner, but this runner runs the course with a joy that is felt. The sun always finishes its course.
Its rising is
from the end of the heavens
its circuit
to the end of them
and there is nothing hidden from its heat- this is the one thing that everyone can feel. the blind, deaf, handicapped, ill, deformed, and diseased.
This is why in history, the Sun was a major playing when it came to worship and deity.
The Sun plays a powerful role in seasons, temperature, growth, etc. but it was created by someone with all the power over those different roles.

What caught your attention in this section?
Which verses or words would you like to study a little more this week?
Engage the Heart (humility vs. pride):
When was the last time you gazed into the sky or marveled at creation around you? The eclipse, consolations, shooting stars, apple blossoms, flowers in bloom, etc? Have you had a sunburn yet this year or felt the warmth of the sun on your skin? What did you see, what did you hear, what did you feel?
What is the most influential thing/person you have seen, heard, or experienced? Remember what you felt in that moment…now imagine the one that created that. What does it say about that person or thing?
If something that has been created makes us respond in that way, how much more do you think we ought to be moved by the creator of that?
Enlist the Body (Words, actions, emotions):

Specific instructions (vs. 7-9)
the law of the LORD- there is going to be a pattern here where a specific instruction “of the LORD” is mentioned, explained, and given a description of hope and change.
is perfect- “blameless”
reviving the soul- Ps. 23:3, 2 Tim. 3:16. It changes people!
the testimony of the LORD
is sure
making wise the simple
the precepts of the LORD
are right
rejoicing the heart
the commandsment of the LORD
is pure
enlightening the eyes
the fear fo the LORD
is clean
enduring forever
the rules of the LORD
are true
and righteous altogether
Significant investment (v. 10)
more to be desired are they than
gold- not just known and understood, but desired
even much fine gold- the most valuable commodity of the Ancient Near East
sweeter also than
honey
drippings of the honeycomb- the sweetest substance of the Ancient Near East.
Sobering impact (v. 11)
moreover- there is the description of verses 7-9, but more than that, the instructions of God are to be desired, and now, “moreover” that…there are steps of intensity
by them
is your servant warned
in keeping them
there is great reward

Hidden faults (vs.)
who can discern his errors?
declare me innocent from hidden faults
Presumptuous sins (vs.)
keep back your servant
from presumptuous sins- “failing to observe the limits of what is permitted or appropriate”- Oxford dictionary
let them not have
dominion over me
then I shall be blameless
and innocent of great transgression

Let the
words of my mouth
and the meditations of my heart
be acceptable in your sight
