Psalm 112:1–2 NKJV
1 Praise the Lord! Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, Who delights greatly in His commandments. 2 His descendants will be mighty on earth; The generation of the upright will be blessed.
Mark 8:34–37 NKJV
34 When He had called the people to Himself, with His disciples also, He said to them, “Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. 35 For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it. 36 For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? 37 Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?
Deny:
to affirm that one has no acquaintance or connection with someone
to forget one's self, lose sight of one's self and one's own interests
“Man in his spiritual pride has exchanged God’s method of self-denial for Satan’s plan of self–improvement.” ― Daniel W. Blair
Most people want self improvement without self denial
Self improvement focuses on goal based, temporary outcomes
Self denial focuses on long term process based practices
Self improvement picks and chooses the areas you want to get better in
Self-denial cuts off the areas
Self improvement is the process of improving yourself by ones own actions
Self denial is aligning your actions with God’s process
Self-improvement is the improvement of one’s knowledge, status, or character by one’s own efforts
Self denial choose God, others and humility over us
Self improvement is Goal oriented
Self denial is process oriented
Self Denial:
Anterior mid cingulate cortex
anytime you do something you don’t want to do,
Brain area gets bigger
Not by adding more work but by doing the things you don’t want to do
It’s bigger in athletes, bigger in people who challenge themselves and overcome those challenges
not just will power but the will to live power
Thus, aMCC may be better able to accurately assess the metabolic costs of exertion in tenacious individuals. Additionally, some evidence suggests that regular exercise may actually increase aMCC volume (Colcombe et al., 2006) (see Figure 3F), suggesting the exciting possibility that it may be possible to physically ‘train up’ aMCC function, and in turn, tenacity.
Romans 8:9 NKJV
But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.
Galatians 2:20 NKJV
I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.
