A Prophet’s Reward

2 Kings 4:8–17 NLT
8 One day Elisha went to the town of Shunem. A wealthy woman lived there, and she urged him to come to her home for a meal. After that, whenever he passed that way, he would stop there for something to eat. 9 She said to her husband, “I am sure this man who stops in from time to time is a holy man of God. 10 Let’s build a small room for him on the roof and furnish it with a bed, a table, a chair, and a lamp. Then he will have a place to stay whenever he comes by.” 11 One day Elisha returned to Shunem, and he went up to this upper room to rest. 12 He said to his servant Gehazi, “Tell the woman from Shunem I want to speak to her.” When she appeared, 13 Elisha said to Gehazi, “Tell her, ‘We appreciate the kind concern you have shown us. What can we do for you? Can we put in a good word for you to the king or to the commander of the army?’ ” “No,” she replied, “my family takes good care of me.” 14 Later Elisha asked Gehazi, “What can we do for her?” Gehazi replied, “She doesn’t have a son, and her husband is an old man.” 15 “Call her back again,” Elisha told him. When the woman returned, Elisha said to her as she stood in the doorway, 16 “Next year at this time you will be holding a son in your arms!” “No, my lord!” she cried. “O man of God, don’t deceive me and get my hopes up like that.” 17 But sure enough, the woman soon became pregnant. And at that time the following year she had a son, just as Elisha had said.

Look at your Pastor and tell them Don’t Play With Me Prophet, I Can’t get pregnant...

There are several crucial aspects of this story revealing how we, by supporting the vision of the house, can bring our own hearts desire.
The Shunammite women perceived Elisha As a Man Of God (SHUNEM A town in the territory of Issachar (Josh 19:18), near Mount Gilboa.) Negev, A. (1990). The Archaeological encyclopedia of the Holy Land (3rd ed.). New York: Prentice Hall Press.
1 Chronicles 12:32 KJV
32 And of the children of Issachar, which were men that had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do; the heads of them were two hundred; and all their brethren were at their commandment.
If we are going to run with the vision of your local church, we will need revelation of our pastor as a man of God. Someone once asked Dr. Barry Cook, What do i need to call you? Do i call you Pastor, Doctor, Bishop, Brother Barry, or just Barry. Pastor Cook looked at the young man and said, call me by whatever name speak’s into your life, If i am your pastor then call me that ; if i am doctor then call me that; or if i am just Barry call me that.. Its up to you. ( A man of God can only speak into somones life at the Level they will receive them)
Matthew 10.41 He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet’s reward; and he that receiveth a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man’s reward.
“He Who Receives a Prophet”
What do you do with a prophet? Throughout the ages, prophets were controversial figures. Their messages required change, and not everyone wanted to change. No one was more controversial than Jesus, The Prophet. Quoting the Old Testament, Peter called Him a Stone to stumble over (1 Peter 2:8). The issue God addressed with Moses in Deuteronomy 18 (and in many other passages) was the issue of refusing and receivingrefusing what is a lie (that which takes a person further and further away from the true God), and receiving the truth (that which brings one into a right relationship with God).
Truth builds relationships and brings one into closer fellowship and friendship, while lies divide and destroy—sometimes eating away at the relationship like cancer, and at other times slicing the relationship in two as with an enemy sword. When Jesus came proclaiming what the Father taught Him, He knew the life and death nature of what He said, and how important it was that it be received.
Near the end of His second year of ministry (fall of ad 28), Jesus sent out the Twelve instructing them about ministry and its rewards (Matthew 10:1–42). Read Matthew 10:40–41. What did Jesus say about a prophet in these two verses?
Jesus promised that those who received the Twelve as His messengers (as they would receive a prophet) would receive a prophet’s reward. In Matthew 10:40–41 Jesus used the word dechomai, which is translated “receives.”
This word refers to one who receives wholeheartedly, readily, and deliberately. It is literally, “he who is receiving, with the idea of an ongoing reception and welcoming of the prophet and his message, not just a “bra man from the 5th floor” nod.
Jesus asked Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” The disciples replied, “Some say John the Baptist; and others Elijah; but still others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.” Then Jesus asked, But who do you say that I am?Peter answered, “Thou art the Christ the Son of the Living God” (Matthew 16:13–16).
If someone would be given a prophet’s reward for receiving one sent by Jesus, then how much more would one be rewarded who received Jesus readily and deliberately with a whole heart. To receive Him as The Prophet sent from the Father was to receive the Father and His message of truth. At the same time, to reject Jesus and His message was to reject the Father as well. He stated in Deuteronomy 18:19, if anyone does not “listen to My words which He shall speak in My name, I Myself will require it of him.”
Mark 6. 4 But Jesus told them, “The only place a prophet isn’t honored is in his hometown, among his relatives, and in his own house.” 5 He couldn’t work any miracles there except to lay his hands on a few sick people and cure them. 6 Their unbelief amazed him.
Jesus spoke forthrightly. A prophet has no honor in his home town, among his own relatives, and in his own household. This statement sums up the whole crowd including Christ’s own family. They did not believe in Him as the Messiah, and they were offended at what He taught. Only the power of God could change their hearts. The next time we hear of Jesus’ brothers it was about a year later in the fall of ad 29 as they mockingly told Jesus to go up to the Feast of the Tabernacles and show Himself to His followers. Jesus told them His time had not yet fully come (John 7:1–9). In light of their rejection of Him, Jesus would trust His Father to draw them to Himself.
Final Point on this:
If we are going to move into the position God has for us in the Last days, we must perceive the men & women of God who have been placed around us and give them the right to speak into our lives.
It all starts with recognizing the gifts before us.
The Glass Of Water
