This is how they treated the people: They loved them. They were gentle and patient with them, showing affection towards them, as they exhorted and encouraged them… as they preached… as they taught them.
For Christian servants… this is our aim, our lifestyle goal. We have been entrusted with the Gospel message… we are to make this look as good as it sounds...
Not to please men, but to please God. We are to make Christianity attracted with our lives as we disciple others.
Verse 12 - We are to walk worthy, or we are to walk in a worthy manner. We are to walk in a manner worthy of the God who calls you into His own Kingdom and glory.
To be clear: No one is worthy of Christ. No one is worthy of His life, death, resurrection, promises, etc. Christ chooses to come to unworthy people, die for them, and make them worthy to stand before the Father in heaven.
Christ has made you worthy. Christ has called you; He has paid for you; He has redeemed and has purified you, saving your soul from eternal fire, by His very own blood...
Now, you, who have received this precious gift of grace; you dear child of God; you dear servant.... Act Like It! Live like it! Walk in a worthy manner.
You have been entrusted with a Person. You have been entrusted with His message, with His good News…
Live like it!
Paul had to live like it while he ministered, while he preached and labored.
All servants must do this. All servant must watch their own lives as they serve others.
We are in the ministry business for Jesus. Wherever you find yourself serving, you find yourself modeling and exemplifying what is in your heart. Your behavior mirrors what you believe.
The movie “Saving Private Ryan” was an intense classic war movie. Very realistic scenes brought veterans into PTSD trauma reactions.
In the very beginning of the movie, Private James Ryan is an old man going to the grave of the beloved captain, played by Tom Hanks… and he falls into an emotional wreck as his is carried back into the fields of war, remembering what all had happened...
A group of soldiers goes into several battle grounds to find one Private James Ryan, to get him home to his family, because all of his brothers had died in battle.
All but a few men die trying to save Private Ryan...
And the last great scene is the Captain dying out on the battle ground, and looking up at Private Ryan… and he says, “Earn this… earn this...”
We cannot earn what Christ has done for us… But we can life out of this life that He has given us. We can take this life and message that He has entrusted to us… and we can live like it matters… live like He matters… live like what He has done matters...
Men did not purchase your soul and men can’t take your soul. Men cannot save you from hell and destruction, or give you an eternal home.
Christ did. Christ can. Christ died for them. Christ died for you.
Live like it. Act like it. Serve Christ and serve your people for Christ. Love them with the love of Christ. Show the people the One who makes us worthy...
And help them to walk in a manner worthy of the God who has called us into His Kingdom and glory.
He has entrusted us with so much.
Jesus would not let the demons witness for Him. Christ shut their mouths. Demons are not worthy to witness. They are not worthy to proclaim Jesus as Christ, as Son of the Living God. He has not and will not entrust the message to demons… and they will never be worthy...
But, He will let His children. He will entrust His children, whom He has made worthy...
Go and minister for God.
