Rod Demsey: says
Healthy small groups / are the best place to develop Christ followers/
as evidenced / by the fact that Jesus Himself used a small group / to develop the first group of world changers.
Get Ready church / because we are about to change and flip the world upside down.
His kingdom is upside down
Sermon Series: Embracing the call/
Title: Seek 1st they kingdom of God
MARK 3:13-19 (NIV)
Jesus Appoints the Twelve
13 Jesus went up on a mountainside / and called to him those he wanted,
and they came to him.
14 He appointed twelve / that they might be with him /
and that he might send them out to preach,
15 and to have authority to drive out demons.
16 These are the twelve he appointed: Simon (to whom he gave the name Peter),
17 James son of Zebedee and his brother John (to them he gave the name Boanerges, which means “sons of thunder”),
18 Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Thaddaeus, Simon the Zealot
19 and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.
Im going to tell you that these men had to leave everthing behind
to follow Jesus
For the past few weeks we have been here in the book of Mark:
History:
Author: John Mark
Unanimous Testimony from the ealy church,
Papias stated In AD 120-140 that John Mark was a close associate of peter.
Areas Writen:
Of Itaily and Rome; In the Mid 50’s and 60’s AD
To encourage his readers / to persevere through suffering / and persecution.
Mark was inspired by the Holy spirit,
which means this word was God breathed, and Holy Spirit inspired.
Marks message strongly focused on Jesus humanity and his Divinity....
Point 1 They had all they needed
- These men had the kingdom of God in front of them....
THESE ORDINARY MEN WERE CALLED OUT OF THERE COMFORTABLE LIVES.
They werent offered riches, money clothes, women, positions
The kingdom of God is upside down
We know that he was a visible King but had an invincible kingdom.
To become a child of God we a man must die 2 deaths????? Spiritual; and Physcial
We must be born again?
We must pick up are cross??
Luke 9:2
He sent them to preach the kingdom of God to heal the sick.
“THIS IS CONTROL OVER NATURE”
Matthew 20:28 (NIV) Leading by serving
just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
Jesus was going disciple, train, these men to take his position.
Matthew 6:33 (NIV)
But seek first his kingdom / and his righteousness, / and all these things will be given to you as well.
What does this look like? David Cantu can you come up?
Matthew 22:37 (NIV)
Jesus replied:
‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’
We have to learn how to fall so deeply in love with his presence, to the point where he becomes Lord of our life.
When we can say, i give you my life,
and i trust you
change me,
fill me,
transform me FLOW>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Point 2 The Idle Person
2 Thessalonians 3:6–12 (NIV)
In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ,
we command you, brothers and sisters,
to keep away from every believer who is idle
and disruptive and does not live according to the teaching you received from us.
For you yourselves know how you ought to follow our example.
We were not idle when we were with you,
nor did we eat anyone’s food without paying for it.
On the contrary, we worked night and day,
laboring and toiling so that we would not be a burden to any of you.
We did this, not because we do not have the right to such help,
but in order to offer ourselves as a model for you to imitate.
For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule:
“The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat.”
We hear that some among you are idle and disruptive.
They are not busy; they are busybodies.
Such people we command and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ to settle down and earn the food they eat.
Point 3 We cant be divided
Mark 3:20–33 (NIV)
Then Jesus entered a house, and again a crowd gathered,
so that he and his disciples were not even able to eat.
When his family heard about this, they went to take charge of him,
for they said, “He is out of his mind.”
And the teachers of the law who came down from Jerusalem said,
“He is possessed by Beelzebul! By the prince of demons he is driving out demons.”
So Jesus called them over to him and began to speak to them in parables:
“How can Satan drive out Satan?
If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.
If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand.
And if Satan opposes himself and is divided, he cannot stand;
his end has come.
In fact, no one can enter a strong man’s house without first tying him up. Then he can plunder the strong man’s house.
Truly I tell you, people can be forgiven all their sins and every slander they utter, but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; they are guilty of an eternal sin.”
He said this because they were saying, “He has an impure spirit.”
Then Jesus’ mother and brothers arrived.
Standing outside, they sent someone in to call him.
A crowd was sitting around him, and they told him, “Your mother and brothers are outside looking for you.”
“Who are my mother and my brothers?” he asked.
