MAKE DISCIPLES
MAKE DISCIPLES
Legacy Standard Bible (CHAPTER 28)
18 And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.
19 “aGo therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,
20 teaching them to keep all that I commanded you; and behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
A lot of missionaries will use this verse and get up here and talk about how it applies to their life because they are “going” to make disciples, which is an important part of the great commission, but that is not what it is all about. See, having that mindset leaves you thinking oh, well i’m not called to go, so this doesn’t apply to me, good for you for going though.
the “go” is just a part of it. Make disciples is the main emphasis and the purpose. so, don’t get hung up on the “go”
we won’t get into all the original language and all but the “make disciples” is the only part of the sentence that is an imperative, a command.
the point is to work yourself out of a job as ministers, for someone else to be discipled so they can takeover and do the same
notes (things to maybe include and talk about):
the cost of discipleship
For what all of his disciples must learn is that to be a follower of Jesus entails a painful renunciation of self-interest and a wholehearted turn to Jesus’ interests.
