Mental health is a state of mental well-being that enables people to cope with the stresses of life, realize their abilities, learn well and work well, and contribute to their community.
Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act, and helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices.
When we prioritize our mental health, we are taking a proactive approach to caring for ourselves.
Caring for ourselves means acknowledging the importance of our emotional and psychological well-being and making choices that support it.
I truly believe that FAITH in God is a part of my mental health.
Faith can offer a way to cope with life's stresses and hardships.
It can provide a framework for understanding suffering, personal resilience, and hope, often offering a broader perspective on personal challenges.
But…
Have you ever felt like you “Hit a Wall”
Have you ever felt like you his a wall in your faith and it’s messing with your mental health.
The reason why it’s messing with my mental health, is because I am having trouble coping with some stresses of life.
I want to deal with the stress of dealing with people…
Hitting a wall when dealing with people in general refers to a state of frustration or exhaustion that arises from interpersonal interactions.
There are two words that I want to deal with:
Transparent and Honest
Often times the church has a problem with dealing with these two words.
And also people in the church often try to “Fix People”
And when they came to the disciples, they saw a great crowd around them, and scribes arguing with them. And immediately all the crowd, when they saw him, were greatly amazed and ran up to him and greeted him. And he asked them, “What are you arguing about with them?”
And someone from the crowd answered him, “Teacher, I brought my son to you, for he has a spirit that makes him mute. And whenever it seizes him, it throws him down, and he foams and grinds his teeth and becomes rigid. So I asked your disciples to cast it out, and they were not able.” And he answered them, “O faithless generation, how long am I to be with you? How long am I to bear with you? Bring him to me.”
And they brought the boy to him. And when the spirit saw him, immediately it convulsed the boy, and he fell on the ground and rolled about, foaming at the mouth.
And Jesus asked his father, “How long has this been happening to him?” And he said, “From childhood. And it has often cast him into fire and into water, to destroy him. But if you can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.”
Pause!!!
Demonic possession is real
but Mental Dis-ease is real also
Everything is not a demon but everything is not a mental illness!!!!
This father knew that something was wrong with his son and it was spiritual…
Lord give us spiritual guidance to assess the situation that I am connected…
What his son was going through from a child was affecting him as a Father…
Who wants to see a family member or someone you care about being controlled by something that you have no control over.
But… If you can do anything… I Hit A Wall
“Have compassion on us and help us”
Compassion: to be deeply moved (bowels) v. — to be affected deeply in one’s inner being, especially in that aspect (the bowels) characterized by sympathy and compassion.
Help: to help (assist) v. — to give help or assistance; be of service.
Us! - When my faith is challenged my mental health is affected!
The stress is in trying to focus on one person and balance out everything else.
Can be Stressful!!!
And Jesus said to him, “ ‘If you can’! All things are possible for one who believes.”
I still believe!!!
All things are possible…
Immediately the father of the child cried out and said, “I believe; help my unbelief!”
This is the most transparent and honest statement…
I have faith…
I know that you are able…
Help my unbelief!
Pause!!!!
Stop trying to fix people…
The question is… How did Jesus help his unbelief?
He didn’t lecture Him..
He didn’t rebuke Him
Because faith has different levels:
Pause!
Sight is absolutely connected to our faith…
And when Jesus saw that a crowd came running together, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, “You mute and deaf spirit, I command you, come out of him and never enter him again.” And after crying out and convulsing him terribly, it came out, and the boy was like a corpse, so that most of them said, “He is dead.” But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him up, and he arose.
Jesus dealt with Nicodemus one way…
He dealt with the Women at the Well another way…
Jesus dealt with the centurion officer another way…
Jesus performed this miracle before him. His unbelief was helped by sight…
Jesus is in the business of building your faith at your place of faith…
My faith has to be the foundation for my Mental Health!
The reason why I think, feel, and act a certain way, is because I believe!
