Acts says this is David
The theology of the Psalms are contained in Ps 1 and 2
This is a more straightforward Psalm
It seems to be written to instruct
I. The Nations are in a Rebellion (vv.1-3)
I. The Nations are in a Rebellion (vv.1-3)
Plot is the same word as meditate in Psalm 1:2 “2 but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.”
David is addressing the kings who lead these raging nations
They act like an oppressed people
As if the instruction of the Lord is a Cinder block tied to their ankle
II. The LORD is Unshaken (vv. 4-6)
II. The LORD is Unshaken (vv. 4-6)
Illus: Nerf Battle turns to a fight, I just had no idea
The threat of the nations is laughably unimpressive
2 Samuel 7:14 “14 I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son. When he commits iniquity, I will discipline him with the rod of men, with the stripes of the sons of men,”
The hope is in the King!
The Lord speaks in Anger
we speak in taunts from anger
We make threats
The Lord’s threat is his King
III. The King Will Prevail (vv. 7-9)
III. The King Will Prevail (vv. 7-9)
David reminds us of the Covenant The Lord made with him
David leans on this covenant with Faith
That covenant is David will prosper
[TRN] David’s Faith leads to obedience. Indeed, he shows us that…
IV. The Truth Leads to the Service of the LORD (vv. 10-12)

“Theology Leads to Practice”
David
David now shows us a right response to his message
David addresses “kings”
Application
Application
Any good lament comes with a call for response
David laments that the nations rage, and then calls the same Kings to repent
When we gather around with our breakfast table and moan over the state of things,
let’s be quick to remember our responsibility in calling out sin
let’s be quicker to examine our own rebellious tendencies.
Come Thou Fount:
“Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it;
Prone to leave the God I love:
Take my heart, oh, take and seal it
With Thy Spirit from above.
Rescued thus from sin and danger,
Purchased by the Savior’s blood,
May I walk on earth a stranger,
As a son and heir of God.”
Don’t we feel this same rebellion around us?
The majority of culture speaks about any religion as chains that need to be shucked off in order for our society to progress
Serve with awe
pay homage
All who take refuge in him are happy (v. 12)
His instructions are not chains to be thrown off, but an anchor to be cherished
