Galatians 3: 23-29. Heirs according to promise.
Intro:
I will try to explain how Paul explains the Amazing great news, of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
But the devil, people, our self, - have a tendency to distort this great news, so it serves us fit us, pleases us, fits our agenda, and the devil will gladly indulge and help us with that, other people to. But that is not good news. That is the sad state of people are in, that the laws showed our great need for the promise og God to Abraham, Jesus Christ. That many rejects because it is not fitting to their agenda, and it does not make them God and king. Lord and judge of what is right a wrong.
Recap: Start with verse 29.
“Last verse: 3:29“And if you are Christ’s you are Abraham’s offspring, heirs according to promise.”
Heirs of the promise of God. Gods’ children. WOW… This is amazing. Then and today, the Galatian, gentiles were Gods people by faith, in the promise.
But let start at the beginning.
The law was there to guide people to God, and trust in him.
Verses 23-24. Again, Paul writes about why the law came, it was to lead us to God, it did that by inclosing /inprisoned people until faith in Jesus would be revealed. Therefore, the law was a guardian, a pedao to help and guide people before Christ came – so that people could be justified by faith. (In promise and in faith in Jesus’ work). (Justification and salvation were always by faith in God and his promise, - not if people could keep the law or not, because no one could – it was to point to God, the law made it obevius, that sin was in people’s life, Jesus makes it even more evident when he explains that it is not outword action only but also out mind and attude towards God and people.).
Galatians and us? The law was not the point, it was good to show how to live but it was to point to God. And that only by faith, can anyone be justified. Greek, Jew, all nations. Free slave, man woman.
We all fall short, we don’t have the ability to truly justify ourself, only by faith in Jesus Christ can we be justified. (That is great we don’t earn our salvation and redemption or justification it is done by Jesus and by faith in Gods promise).
False objection – I don’t need justification, I am okay with God, because I don’t need to obey the law, or moral, etic, - no that is why the law came to show, how fare all people are from God. The law shows our desperate need for God’s grace. Then I will work for it and justify myself, you can’t you have to trust in Gods promise by faith.
By faith sons of God.
Verses 25-26 This passage is amazing, our gurdian/pedago was revmoved, because faith came, that faith dose something amazing, in Christ you are all sons of God through faith, not by works, not by ethnic descent, but by faith. The gospel of Jesus Christ is available to all nations. Any one can become a son of God by faith in Jesus Christ. wow… (Negative not everyone is child of God – The only way is faith). (Son heir – so on… to God promise).
Verse 27. Baptized in to Christ.
Paul points to the baptizem, and points out that in their baptizem, they were baptized into Christ, (In the name of the father son, and holy spirt, the have put on Christ) The old has passed away the new has come, taken off the old, child of wrath, clothe in Jesus Christ, restored now made right with God, sons of God in Christ, all by faith in Gods promise. Jesus Christ.
Verse 28. Explaining value and standing in Christ. Not Jew or Greek, - you nation not what brings you right standing with God,
Slave or free: It is not your economic status, your job function,
Male or female, - it is not social standing and cultures norms of value, one of the main differences oblivious, even as God made them male and female in his image. All are one in Christ Jesus.
The Jew does not get right standing and become God’s son different that the Greek.
The slave does not get right standing with God different that the free person,
Men and woman dose not get right standing in different ways.
Paul teaching that faith in Jesus Christ, the promise of Abraham, changes the worship system, breaks down the walls of separation, that in Christ we can be justified, we can have adoption and we can worship have access to God, by faith we are one new thing the “body of Christ” – we have put on Christ, baptized, in to Christ death to raise to new life in Christ, then if we are Christ’s we are heirs to the promise.
This it what Paul is so concerned about to have the simple faith in Jesus Christ.. and not other things or deeds… He writes and pleads, don’t trust the false teachers; that teach you need something different or more than Jesus Christ by faith. – Today as I said before I think this is as relevant as ever… The good news of Jesus Christ is so good that it gets rejected, distorted, perverted, by people that will justify them self, that will not die, and get crucified with Christ, but will fight for an agenda, and the agenda will be over Jesus Christ, therefore pervert scripture and the great news that God has made available for anyone that will come by faith in Jesus Christ. (False Gospels will promise something different that Jesus Christ, - wealt, health, meaning, happiness, success, power, equality, affirmation, diversity, people to like you, The false Gospel uses Jesus to get something different that Jesus, and God, )
The good news is: people from any nation/ethic group, not of gods people, can now by faith in Gods promise to Abrham, in Christ be a son of God by faith. And heir of the promise God has to Abrham, what was the promise Jesus Christ. That gives justification, redeems, becomes the curse, that we might be blessed, crucified with Christ, - the Gospel of Jesus Christ – Life, death, resurrection, coming back.
This passage has been used to justify all kinds of false teaching, like all passages of scripture taken out of contest, and used to promote an agenda, that goes against the other passages of scripture and even Paul’s other letters is abzurd.
This passage is about that Jesus Christ has done, how by faith in Jesus Christ all can become sons of God,
By putting on Jesus Christ, Christ is the one that justifies us, and gives identity and value, that is given by Jesus Christ, not our works or etnick desent identity or sex.
(That does not mean I am not a man anymore, or woman is a woman, it is not what justifies me and gives value and worth, that is Jesus Christ, whom I am in.). (Why the objection, Paul clearly addressee that men and woman have different completely roles, Paul addresses slavery in Philemon, and in this very letter the ethnic issues).
Because the point is that now we reach the amazing verse we read, that if you are Christ’s then you are Abraham’s offspring, heirs according to promise. Paul started this path in verse verse 6, pointing to Abrahams faith, Paul has been explaining that it was always about the promise, THIS AMAZING Great NEWS TO ALL…
Do we believe in the promise? By faith, in Jesus Christ, we become children of God, offspring of Abrham. We will talk more about heirs next week.
A few notes.
Full access to worship God, (Jews, free, men, ) Cort of the gentiles, cort of slave and woman, - Now there is one people with the same acces to God, and the same way by faith, - Baptisem is for all, - not cercumsiem.
