Our Father

The model prayer begins with our father
this is a prayer that can only be prayed by a child of God
when we pray asking for forgiveness it is to our Father
not the Judge of the world
Jesus says in John 10:15, “I lay down my life for the sheep.”
In other words, in the death of Jesus, God has a very special, peculiar design or intention or purpose to purchase and create a flock for himself, including the purchase of our faith, our union with Christ, our forgiveness of every sin (past, present, future), our eternal right standing with God as adopted children and as new creatures in Christ — all that purchased once for all by Jesus. That’s what God intended and achieved when Christ died and stood in the place of his sinful flock, his sheep.-John Piper
When God Justified us = declared us not guilty= made us righteous
that was forever
our sins are washed away
our debt is paid in full
Colossians 2:13–14 LSB
And you being dead in your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you alive with Him, having graciously forgiven us all our transgressions. Having canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us which was hostile to us, He also has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.
soo if we are Justified, cleansed, declared not guilty
do we need to ask for forgiveness?
this is what we are looking at this morning

Restore The Joy

Psalm 32 speaks of a sin that David is confronted with
he had lost his joy
he was physically sick
he was weak did not want to do anything
I have heard testimonies of people physically unable to get out of bed because of the pain. this person went from Dr. to specialist to find out what was wrong. It was not until this person confessed her secret sin that her pain went away
it wasn’t until he had confessed that he was restored
James 5:13–16 LSB
Is anyone among you suffering? Then he must pray. Is anyone cheerful? He is to sing praises. Is anyone among you sick? Then he must call for the elders of the church and they are to pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up, and if he has committed sins, they will be forgiven him. Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much.
many think that this sickness is a result of sin in the Christian’s life
through prayer and confession a person his healed
V 10-11 it wasn,t until he asked for forgiveness that he could sing again
Psalm 51.
this psalm is when he was confronted with the sin of Bathsheba husband Uriah the Hittite
V 7-8 Wants the joy and gladness back in his life
sin is a destructive force in our lives
positionally we are secure in Christ
V 12 Saved
V 14 the God of my salvation
but we still sin and sin destroys us
sin destroys our relationship with the Father
V 15-16 sin takes away our ability to worship
V 17 confess your sin ask for forgiveness then you can worship
V 19 then you can come to church and give your sacrifice of praise

Restore The Relationship

our relationship with anybody depends on how we treat each other
if we say or do something that hurts the other person the good relationship is strained
if someone does something to hurt us then we want to get even
we may wear a mask that gives the appearance that everything is fine
but deep down inside we are boiling
every time we as Christians sin we are causing heartache to the Father who chose to give us grace and salvation
the Holy Spirit who is inside of us. convicting us, leading us in the path of righteousness. we are causing Him to grieve because we are trampling on the cross of Christ where He died for that sin
this sin that we do goes against every thing good
God wanted to bless the ancient Israelites with safety, good crops, large loving families.
but even when God sent prophets to warn the people and bring them back to the law
the killed them and continued to grieve God
that is why David wants his joy to be restored
This is the reason we need to daily ask for forgiveness
confess our sins
to agree with God that what we have done is wrong
to agree with God that what we have done hurts the one who saved us
and when we do
1 John 1:9 LSB
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
God wants to forgive
He wants to bless
He wants to give joy to us
but first we need to take care of that sin that is hindering our relationship
then we have to

Thank Him For Forgiveness

thank you for being faithful and just for forgiveness
thank you for removing the guilt and shame
thank you for restoring the joy of salvation
and possibly thank you for restoring health
thank you for allowing the worship with a pure heart
do you have unconfessed sin?
is there something hindering you from worship?
is your relationship strained?
