Remission is a wonderful word that is used at the end of a terrible time.

Something that will kill you is no longer a threat.
Something that is imperative to have removed has been successfully eliminated.
ἄφεσις aphĕsis, af´-es-is; from 863; freedom; (fig.) pardon:—deliverance, forgiveness, liberty, remission.
English: Cancellation of a debt or punishment
Using this line of reasoning, lets examine why the medical industry may have chosen to use the word remission for a killer disease.

Remission was proclaimed as a “coming feature” of the Christ.

Mark 1:1–4 “The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. As it is written in Isaiah the prophet, “Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way, the voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight,’ ” John appeared, baptizing in the wilderness and proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.”
Luke 1:76–77 “And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Most High; for you will go before the Lord to prepare his ways, to give knowledge of salvation to his people in the forgiveness of their sins,”
Luke 3:3 “And he went into all the region around the Jordan, proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.”
Remission isn’t possible without confession of sins.

Remission was a main theme of Jesus’ sacrifice.
