Intro; Being a mother is a very important role that the Lord chooses to give to many women. There are mother’s who have children naturally and through adoption by God’s blessing’s. But there are also women who take on a mothers role to children through a friendship, teachers and the nurturing care for them at church.
Being a mom means that you take the primary role in the development of your child, preferably with the spiritual leadership of your husband. The reason I say primary role, the mom has a relationship with the child that a dad never does because she carried the child in her womb for 9 months.
This does not negate the father’s role in parenting, it actually should encourage the dad to build as strong of ties with the child as the mom already has.
This morning we are not only celebrating moms, we also are celebrating a child dedication.
Tyler and Jenni Kinsler are making a public statement this morning before you as they dedicate Gabriel Patrick to the Lord.
[Come forward and present certificate and have Pastor Nic pray]
Text; Luke 2:22-24
Luke 2:22–24 NKJV
22 Now when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were completed, they brought Him to Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord 23 (as it is written in the law of the Lord, “Every male who opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord”), 24 and to offer a sacrifice according to what is said in the law of the Lord, “A pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons.”

1. Present Your Children to God; 22-23

According to the Law of Moses, Joseph and Mary brought Jesus to the temple to present Him to the Lord.
Exodus 13:2 NKJV
2 “Consecrate to Me all the firstborn, whatever opens the womb among the children of Israel, both of man and beast; it is Mine.”
Present- bring near, contribute/give, stand by
There are several ways as parents to present our children to the Lord;
Accessibility- God needs to be accessible in our homes, not just at church
Deuteronomy 6:4–9 NKJV
4 “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one! 5 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. 6 “And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. 8 You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 9 You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.
Teaching- parents need to teach the Word of God to our children
Psalm 78:5–6 NKJV
5 For He established a testimony in Jacob, And appointed a law in Israel, Which He commanded our fathers, That they should make them known to their children; 6 That the generation to come might know them, The children who would be born, That they may arise and declare them to their children,
2 Timothy 2:15 NKJV
15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
Start reading early [Bedtime Bibles, story Bibles]
Train- helping a child to develop spiritual skills and discover their strengths
Proverbs 22:6 NKJV
6 Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.
Ephesians 4:29–32 NKJV
29 Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers. 30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. 31 Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. 32 And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.
Ephesians 6:4 NKJV
4 And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.
Training begins in the home and is modeled by the parents
Nurture- providing an environment of constant verbal support, unconditional love and the freedom to fail without condemnation. [We all want our kids to be the best but none of us are perfect]
Galatians 5:22–23 NKJV
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.
Discipline- the practice of training people to obey rules or a code of conduct using discipline to correct disobedience; teaching the fear of the Lord, drawing the line consistently, lovingly, and firmly.
We are to show our children the benefits of following God and the consequences when they don’t
Proverbs 13:24 NKJV
24 He who spares his rod hates his son, But he who loves him disciplines him promptly.
Proverbs 19:18 NKJV
18 Chasten your son while there is hope, And do not set your heart on his destruction.
Proverbs 29:15–17 NKJV
15 The rod and rebuke give wisdom, But a child left to himself brings shame to his mother. 16 When the wicked are multiplied, transgression increases; But the righteous will see their fall. 17 Correct your son, and he will give you rest; Yes, he will give delight to your soul.
When we will present our children to the Lord in the way scripture reveals then we are making them called “holy” [setting apart] to the Lord. These are the first seeds of faith we can sow in their hearts and minds!

2. Offer a Sacrifice; 24

It was according to the law of Moses that the parents bring a sacrifice to the Lord.
Leviticus 12:8 NKJV
8 ‘And if she is not able to bring a lamb, then she may bring two turtledoves or two young pigeons—one as a burnt offering and the other as a sin offering. So the priest shall make atonement for her, and she will be clean.’ ”
Now we don’t have to bring an animal sacrifice to the Lord for ourselves nor our children to cover our sin and to be clean. Jesus has done that for us on Calvary! But there is sacrifice that needs to be made on the parents part on behalf of our children if we want them to live for the Lord.
We must sacrifice the things of the flesh to be separate from the world; materially and spiritually
Romans 12:2 NKJV
2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
1 Corinthians 10:23 NKJV
23 All things are lawful for me, but not all things are helpful; all things are lawful for me, but not all things edify.
1 John 2:15–16 NKJV
15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world.
We must sacrifice our pride to walk with Integrity- be a godly role model for your children
Integrity- the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles; the state of being whole and undivided
Integrity is not letting our pride interfere with our walk in the Lord!
Deuteronomy 8:11–14 NKJV
11 “Beware that you do not forget the Lord your God by not keeping His commandments, His judgments, and His statutes which I command you today, 12 lest—when you have eaten and are full, and have built beautiful houses and dwell in them; 13 and when your herds and your flocks multiply, and your silver and your gold are multiplied, and all that you have is multiplied; 14 when your heart is lifted up, and you forget the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage;
Proverbs 10:9 NKJV
9 He who walks with integrity walks securely, But he who perverts his ways will become known.
Proverbs 11:3 NKJV
3 The integrity of the upright will guide them, But the perversity of the unfaithful will destroy them.
Proverbs 20:7 NKJV
7 The righteous man walks in his integrity; His children are blessed after him.
Psalm 37:18 NKJV
18 The Lord knows the days of the upright, And their inheritance shall be forever.
Psalm 37:37 NKJV
37 Mark the blameless man, and observe the upright; For the future of that man is peace.
Titus 2:7–8 NKJV
7 in all things showing yourself to be a pattern of good works; in doctrine showing integrity, reverence, incorruptibility, 8 sound speech that cannot be condemned, that one who is an opponent may be ashamed, having nothing evil to say of you.
Close;
This morning if you are a mom who has faithfully honored God in raising your children, thank you!
This morning you may be a mom and your children are already grown, and you may be thinking to yourself, “it’s too late for me to do what I wanted to and should have done years ago.”
Well let me tell you it’s not too late! As long as you have breath in your body and hope in your heart, nothing is impossible for God! Present your children to the Lord today, pray for them, offer a sacrifice of yourself to God today on behalf of them, asking God to break down any barriers and heal any wounds there may be!
And if you’re just starting out in the parent game, let me encourage you to follow God’s blueprint, “The Bible”, and experience the joys of parenthood through the eyes of the One who gave His only Son that you could enjoy yours to the fullest!
