How can I know the grace of God?!

There was a day my son Aiden came home from school. He didn’t have that great of a day. He struggled paying attention to the point the teacher had a discussion and wrote it down in his “cj” which tells us how his day went and if there is any homework. So as I went to sign off on his homework, I read this. I was more disappointed in the moment because as he was doing his homework and I was checking it, I kept finding how he was slacking. Doing half work type stuff and he was already struggling in his grades. So when I read about his day he knew I was disappointed! I had a good stern talking to him. He didn’t like it. None of my kids like when I get upset. And he knew I was upset and he began to cry. Well, we had our discussion and went about the day.
Later we needed to go to the store and as we were leaving my son approaches me and says “wanna see a cool trick”. I just nodded and he began to do this little funny thing. And it was such a small trick, nothing crazy, but he was looking at me with this look of anxious. He was waiting for a response and with the big smile he had I knew he was looking for me to laugh. He was looking for a smile back. I’m sure he was just looking for any type of positive response. A response of pleasure. I realized in that moment he was just seeking my approval. Looking in his eyes I got down on one knee, met him where he was at, and just said “you know I love you right son?” and with a smile on his face he just shook his head yes and I hugged him. And I followed up with “cool trick bud!”.
I think often times we do this as a child does with us. We sometimes fall short in our own expectations of the day. We maybe make some not so wise decisions. We feel conviction. which is a good thing. It means you hear the spirit. But then often times we can start to do things in an attempt to be the good graces of God. We think we need to do x, y, and z. Even as an early believer or even a skeptic we say “what do I have to do?” Or sometimes we can say “I’m not sure I can do anything at all. I’ve messed up too much!” Let’s take a look and see what the bible says about being enough and all the things you have to do in order to be in God’s good grace. To be forgiven of the things we’ve done. To just simply live a life of peace with God!
