Anthropology - How We Got Here

Anthropology is the study of mankind. This is the branch of science that studies human societies, their cultures and development. Of course, most anthropologists begin their study apart from the Word of God, what we would call a secular worldview.

I want to point out, however, that only the Bible has the answer to life’s most difficult questions including the following:

Man’s origin

Man’s material and immaterial composition

Man’s work

Man’s death

Man’s future abode

We are going to see some overlap between Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings, but that’s OK! Here we can look even deeper into the Word of God than we are able to on Sunday mornings, and it gives you an opportunity to ask questions. Let’s begin tonight by looking at Man’s origin we’ll ask, “How did we get here?” There are two options:

Evolution or Creation?

The Bible is specific, man was CREATED by a direct act of God!

Genesis 1:27 KJV 1900

27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

Genesis 2:7 KJV 1900

7 And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

Genesis 2:21–22 KJV 1900

21 And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; 22 And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.

Genesis 9:6 KJV 1900

6 Whoso sheddeth man’s blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man.

Psalm 100:3 KJV 1900

3 Know ye that the Lord he is God: It is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; We are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

Ecclesiastes 7:29 KJV 1900

29 Lo, this only have I found, that God hath made man upright; but they have sought out many inventions.

Matthew 19:4 KJV 1900

4 And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female,

Not only was man CREATED by God, but all three persons were involved in his creation. Look again at Genesis 1:26-27

26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

This is what the Bible teaches about our origin, but what about evolution? Let’s examine:

How Wonderful Evolution Is!

Essentially, evolution teaches, that matter, that came from nowhere, exploded, and made everything! But wait, there’s more! From this chaotic explosion came organized systems, and from dead matter came life, and from life, somehow, consciousness ‘evolved’

But Christians are the foolish ones...

The Bible teaches:

Adam, the first man, was made from the “fine dust” of the ALREADY created earth Genesis 2:7,22.

That God made man a living soul - soul refers to our consciousness

The Bible teaches that HUMANS and ANIMALS are DIFFERENT.

Evolution teaches:

Man evolved from rocks - some say, “Star dust”

Man is related to animals

Man is an animal

What Do Should We Expect?

Evolution began being taught during Eisenhower’s presidency.

Since the the Bible/God have been systematically removed from public schools and just look at how we have benefited!

Violent crime is up

Divorce is up

Hatred/racism is up

When you teach children for generations that they came from animals, don’t be upset when they grow up to act like animals!

God is Our Creator

We are created in His image

With emotion, intellect, and will, but so much more that we do not even understand!

We are literally His image bearers, His representatives on earth.

We have a purpose!

God wants us to represent Him on earth, but we can’t do that unless we are saved

God sent Jesus to die in our place so that we can be saved and live for Him

We have hope - Jesus!

You Decide:

Evolution:

You came from a rock.

You have no purpsoe.

You’re basically an animal.

You are in control of your destiny.

Or,

Creation:

You were created by a direct act of God

God has a plan and a purpose for you.

You are different from the animals

You are accountable to God
