Partnering with Holy Spirit

The acronym is HEAL.
Happy Mothers Day
"As we celebrate Mother's Day today, we honor the love, dedication, and selfless care that mothers and mother figures provide for their families.
Their nurturing touch and comforting presence are a reflection of God's own care for us.
Just as mothers are a source of healing and comfort to their children, God also desires to bring healing and wholeness into our lives.
"Today, as we on reflect on celebrating our mothers to discussing the gift of healings,
let's take a moment to appreciate how closely these themes align.
Mothers demonstrate God's love through their acts of compassion, healing, and support.
In a similar way, God invites us to partner with the Holy Spirit in bringing healing to others.
"Let's dive into today's message and discover how we can unlock the gift of healings in our lives by partnering with the Holy Spirit,
just as mothers nurture and heal those around them with their love."
1 Corinthians 12:7–10 NASB95
7 But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. 8 For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, 10 and to another the effecting of miracles, and to another prophecy, and to another the distinguishing of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, and to another the interpretation of tongues.

I. Introduction

A. Importance of partnering with the Holy Spirit for the gift of healings.

We live in a Day with great medical advances
Go back 100 years and think about the access we have to medical treatment
We’ve had Antibiotics for less than 100 years (1928)
We’ve only been able to transplant organs for 70 years (1954)
Antiviral drugs have been around less than that
Stem cells and immuno therapy only since the 70’s so 50 years
eg. Gamma knife
It's also called stereotactic radiosurgery.
Even though it's called surgery, a Gamma Knife procedure doesn't use incisions.
It also isn't a knife. Gamma Knife uses very precise beams of gamma rays to treat an area of disease (lesion) or growth (tumor).
Some say the advancement of ai in medical field wil be the next major leap forward
So with all these advancement in Medicine, do we still need the Gift of Healings?
Yes, Yes we do.
Anyone know anyone who is sick, unable to get help from the medical system?
Even if we have the technology our medical system here is so overtaxed you can wait for years to get the help you need.
I would contend that it is needed as much today as ever before in History.
Why? Well if you undertand the purpose of it, you will know why

B. Jesus instructed His disciples to heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons, and raise the dead

Matthew 10:8 NASB95
8 “Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons. Freely you received, freely give.

C. The disciples experienced the power of the Holy Spirit as they went and ministered.

The disciples went out and did what Jesus told them todo.
Its not only a manor in which God’s people can get back into alignment with the will of God
It also is an act of obedience
It’s doing what Jesus commanded us to do!
Luke 9:1–6 NASB95
1 And He called the twelve together, and gave them power and authority over all the demons and to heal diseases. 2 And He sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to perform healing. 3 And He said to them, “Take nothing for your journey, neither a staff, nor a bag, nor bread, nor money; and do not even have two tunics apiece. 4 “Whatever house you enter, stay there until you leave that city. 5 “And as for those who do not receive you, as you go out from that city, shake the dust off your feet as a testimony against them.” 6 Departing, they began going throughout the villages, preaching the gospel and healing everywhere.
We see the result.
They did was Jesus said. and preached the Gospel and healed the people
Notice something important here
He gave them Power and Authority
we see in the next chapter of the book of Luke
Luke 10:1–12 NASB95
1 Now after this the Lord appointed seventy others, and sent them in pairs ahead of Him to every city and place where He Himself was going to come. 2 And He was saying to them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest. 3 “Go; behold, I send you out as lambs in the midst of wolves. 4 “Carry no money belt, no bag, no shoes; and greet no one on the way. 5 “Whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace be to this house.’ 6 “If a man of peace is there, your peace will rest on him; but if not, it will return to you. 7 “Stay in that house, eating and drinking what they give you; for the laborer is worthy of his wages. Do not keep moving from house to house. 8 “Whatever city you enter and they receive you, eat what is set before you; 9 and heal those in it who are sick, and say to them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’ 10 “But whatever city you enter and they do not receive you, go out into its streets and say, 11 ‘Even the dust of your city which clings to our feet we wipe off in protest against you; yet be sure of this, that the kingdom of God has come near.’ 12 “I say to you, it will be more tolerable in that day for Sodom than for that city.
Notice something important here
He Appointed them.
What does it mean to appoint someone?
It mean you give them the Power and Authority that goes along with the calling.
Its only in the world of politics that you appoint someone to do something they are inacapable of doing
When God appoints you He always empowers and gives your the required authority
Luke 10:17 NASB95
17 The seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name.”
Why Do I bring this up.
You cannot operate in the Spiritual gift of healing outside of the Holy Spirits Power and Authority
Good for us, God already made a way for that.
Luke 10:19 NASB95
19 “Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing will injure you.
Acts 1:8 NASB95
8 but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.”
The Power and Authority Jesus operated in, Is available to everyone who believes through Holy Spirit
We have natural healing.....Doctors, Nurses etc.
But what we are refering to here is Healing that comes through divine means
Now this healing can be for Our Body, Soul or Spirit.
Physical Healing
Inner Healing
Emotional Healing
All of these are encompassed in the Spiritual Gift of Healings that the Holy Spirit gives to those who beleive
So How do we operate in the Gift of Healing
Like all the other gifts You receive it from Holy Spirit
Gifts can be imparted by those who operate in the gift
Given through Prophesy and the laying on of Hands
1 Timothy 4:14 NASB95
14 Do not neglect the spiritual gift within you, which was bestowed on you through prophetic utterance with the laying on of hands by the presbytery.
That’s what we weant to Do on our Holy Spirit Weekend this Friday and Sat 7pm.
If you want to receive a gift, or even an increase portion make sure you are here
Yes we will be streaming it online
Once you receive the gift of Healings how do you grow in it?
Well We have an acronym for that
HEAL

II. H - Honor God's Presence

A. Acknowledge the presence and power of the Holy Spirit in your life.
B. Biblical Example: - Peter and John heal a lame man at the temple gate.
Acts 3:1–10 NASB95
1 Now Peter and John were going up to the temple at the ninth hour, the hour of prayer. 2 And a man who had been lame from his mother’s womb was being carried along, whom they used to set down every day at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, in order to beg alms of those who were entering the temple. 3 When he saw Peter and John about to go into the temple, he began asking to receive alms. 4 But Peter, along with John, fixed his gaze on him and said, “Look at us!” 5 And he began to give them his attention, expecting to receive something from them. 6 But Peter said, “I do not possess silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you: In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene—walk!” 7 And seizing him by the right hand, he raised him up; and immediately his feet and his ankles were strengthened. 8 With a leap he stood upright and began to walk; and he entered the temple with them, walking and leaping and praising God. 9 And all the people saw him walking and praising God; 10 and they were taking note of him as being the one who used to sit at the Beautiful Gate of the temple to beg alms, and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him.
Jesus passed him by many many times
but His healing was appointed by God to be a sign the other Power and Authority that was passed on to Jesus’s disciples
C. Application: Invite the Holy Spirit's guidance and acknowledge His sovereignty in every situation.

III. E - Exercise Faith

A. Trust God for the impossible and believe in His ability to heal.
Its Him not you
We are simply Conduits for His power to flow through
B. Biblical Example: - The woman with the issue of blood touches Jesus' garment and is healed by her faith.
Matthew 9:20–22 NASB95
20 And a woman who had been suffering from a hemorrhage for twelve years, came up behind Him and touched the fringe of His cloak; 21 for she was saying to herself, “If I only touch His garment, I will get well.” 22 But Jesus turning and seeing her said, “Daughter, take courage; your faith has made you well.” At once the woman was made well.
Someone in the equation must be operating in faith.
Jesus only chastised those who did the praying for not having enough faith
He never once chastised the one who was being prayed for!
C. Application: Exercise faith in prayer and expect God to move in healing power.

IV. A - Act with Compassion

A. Show love and empathy to those who are suffering.
B. Biblical Example: - Jesus heals a leper with compassion and touch.
Mark 1:40–45 NASB95
40 And a leper came to Jesus, beseeching Him and falling on his knees before Him, and saying, “If You are willing, You can make me clean.” 41 Moved with compassion, Jesus stretched out His hand and touched him, and said to him, “I am willing; be cleansed.” 42 Immediately the leprosy left him and he was cleansed. 43 And He sternly warned him and immediately sent him away, 44 and He said to him, “See that you say nothing to anyone; but go, show yourself to the priest and offer for your cleansing what Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.” 45 But he went out and began to proclaim it freely and to spread the news around, to such an extent that Jesus could no longer publicly enter a city, but stayed out in unpopulated areas; and they were coming to Him from everywhere.
C. Application: Look for opportunities to express God's love through acts of compassion.

V. L - Listen to the Spirit

A. Be sensitive to the leading and promptings of the Holy Spirit.
B. Biblical Example: - Philip is led by the Spirit to minister to the Ethiopian eunuch.
Acts 8:26–40 NASB95
26 But an angel of the Lord spoke to Philip saying, “Get up and go south to the road that descends from Jerusalem to Gaza.” (This is a desert road.) 27 So he got up and went; and there was an Ethiopian eunuch, a court official of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, who was in charge of all her treasure; and he had come to Jerusalem to worship, 28 and he was returning and sitting in his chariot, and was reading the prophet Isaiah. 29 Then the Spirit said to Philip, “Go up and join this chariot.” 30 Philip ran up and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet, and said, “Do you understand what you are reading?” 31 And he said, “Well, how could I, unless someone guides me?” And he invited Philip to come up and sit with him. 32 Now the passage of Scripture which he was reading was this: He was led as a sheep to slaughter; And as a lamb before its shearer is silent, So He does not open His mouth. 33 In humiliation His judgment was taken away; Who will relate His generation? For His life is removed from the earth.” 34 The eunuch answered Philip and said, “Please tell me, of whom does the prophet say this? Of himself or of someone else?” 35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning from this Scripture he preached Jesus to him. 36 As they went along the road they came to some water; and the eunuch said, “Look! Water! What prevents me from being baptized?” 37 And Philip said, “If you believe with all your heart, you may.” And he answered and said, “I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.” 38 And he ordered the chariot to stop; and they both went down into the water, Philip as well as the eunuch, and he baptized him. 39 When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord snatched Philip away; and the eunuch no longer saw him, but went on his way rejoicing. 40 But Philip found himself at Azotus, and as he passed through he kept preaching the gospel to all the cities until he came to Caesarea.
C. Application: Listen for the Spirit's direction and be willing to follow His guidance.

Application
5 Step Prayer Model
Developed by John Wimber, I First became aware of it through Randy Clark
Pastor Trevor taught a course on this a number of years back

Step 1: The Interview

The first step is to introduce yourself and ask for their name.
The interview consists of data gathering. Ask them,
“Where does it hurt or what would you like me to pray for?”
You may gather data on the Natural level by what can you see.
But you must keep your spiritual mind open to God’s prompting.
Sometimes, God gives you Words of Knowledge, discernment or visions.
You need to keep silent before God to see if there are any special revelation He might want to download to you.

Step 2: The Diagnosis

After you know the problem, now you can probe deeper:
Why do they have this condition?
There are a number of reasons why:
Natural causes – disease, accident
Sin – committed by them or against them
Emotional hurts causing physical or other pain
Relationship problems
lack of forgiveness
Supernatural – may be demonic
Keep asking for God’s help and wisdom.
You want to solve the root of the problem not just the external symptoms.
Ask them questions if appropriate.

Step 3: Prayer Selection

After you determined the problem and the causes, you’re ready to pray for the person.
What kind of prayer should you pray?
Begin by asking the Holy Spirit to come and minister to the person.
If it is a bodily sickness, lay on hands on their shoulder and ask for God to heal.
You don’t need to touch the specific body part.
Most prayers are intercessory for God to act.
You might feel led to give a command of faith (Acts 3:6) for healing –
“Cancer cells be destroyed in the name of Jesus.”
Or it might be a rebuke of demonic presence –
You rebuke (break their power), bind them(contain), expel (get rid) it.
“I rebuke lust and break all power in the name of Jesus.
I bind you and call you up and out of the person at once in the name of Jesus.”
Always use the name of Jesus. You have no authority in yourself.

Step 4: Prayer engagement

It’s important to keep your eyes open during your prayer! Keeping them open serves two purposes.
Firstly, you look out for phenomenological signs (warmth, tingling, shaking etc).
God might be doing something to them at that moment.
Secondly, the person being prayed for might have demonic manifestation and you don’t want to be caught off-guard.
Once you see certain signs of manifestation, use the name of Jesus to bind the devil.
Short prayers.
Gods not looking for the perfect prayer that is just the right words that fulfilles an incantation
He’s looking for a compasionate heart that will partner with Him in seeing His Will to be done on earth
You don’t have to convince God to do something He already wants to do more than you!
Rather we come into agreement with Him
It’s okay to ask questions during your prayer.
Find out what God is doing.
Ask them how are they feeling.
When should you stop praying?
Stop when:
1) Healing has occured
2) the Spirit tells you to stop
3) you’ve run out of things to pray.
Before you remove your hands, tell the person that you’re stopping.
Step 5: Post-Prayer Direction
If the person you prayed for is healed at that moment instantaneously, thank God.
If not, the healing might be gradual.
In order for them to keep their healing ,we follow Jesus’ instructions in the Bible – “Stop sinning” (John 5:14)
Tell them to read their Bibles, spend time with God, get involved or keep involved in the local church.
If they are healed or claim to be healed, ask them to check with their doctor first.
Don’t tell them to stop their medicine.
You are not a medical professional.
Only a doctor can check them and certify that are healed.
Before that, they must keep taking their medicine.
Let’s face it. Not everyone we pray for is healed.
This requires a sensitive touch so that they do not go away feeling angry with God or disappointed with their “lack” of faith.
Don’t attribute their lack of healing to a lack of faith!
The fact that they agreed to receive prayer, demonstrates their faith that God can heal.
Always remember that.
Reassure them that God loves them and encourage them to keep on asking.
God is sovereign and may choose to heal them at another time.
Reflection Questions:
- How can you honor God's presence in your life and ministry?
- What are some ways you can exercise faith in your daily walk with God?
- How can you show compassion to those around you?
- How can you cultivate a listening heart to the Holy Spirit?
