Bridges are important.

As you drive around this week notice how many bridges, of many kinds, you go over. My guess is we will all be surprised by the number. Our text this morning serves as a bridge.

As you look at our world what do you see?

I think it is important for us to answer this question often. A quote I use a lot with those in addiction is from M Scott Peck

“Mental health is a commitment to reality at all costs” M. Scott Peck

The problem is sometimes we do not see reality but instead what we think is reality. We allow the opinions or others to color our sight so much that though we see part of what is going on we see things fuzzily.
2 Corinthians 5:16 NIV
So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer.
I think our passage this morning may help us to “see clearly”.

We need a change of sight.

This passage helps us to see the blindness of others and how Jesus can give new sight in more than one way.

The friends of the blind were a bridge.

Notice in our text this morning the blind man makes no request of Jesus, as recorded, but instead it is the friends who are the ones “begging”. The man does not come by himself but instead were brought to Jesus by others. The most powerful reason someone comes to Jesus is through a personal invite.

Jesus engages the man personally with compassion.

Notice the personal touch of Jesus as he takes the man by the hand and guides him to the place of the healing. Youth group game last week.

Jesus has reasons for doing things His way.

Why does it take two touches? Why does he spit on the mans face? Why does he…? The answer for me is this, “I do not know”. I can speculate and many do but I do not know why Jesus does things the way he does.

Sometimes we may need more than one touch.

Sometimes we need to not get things all at once. Sometimes we cannot handle healing and transformation all at once.

What do you see?

Notice right now.

Be a bridge builder for Jesus!

Let’s start building bridges for the Gospel.

Allow Jesus to give another touch.

Just because struggle with something else does not mean anything other than Jesus has the opportunity to provide greater healing. Sometimes this is a sign of present healing.

Be encouraged that you do make a difference.

Barna highlighted this week that only 19% of mothers feel that they are able to meaningfully contribute to the world on a regular basis. Moms, you are doing better than you realize. Mom you are making an important contribution by loving your kids, and the kids of others.
