The Revelation of Jesus

Who do you say that I am?
Matthew 16:16–17 CSB
Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” Jesus responded, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but my Father in heaven.
Our Confession is based on our revelation of who Jesus is
Who God is
The Bible confession to Jesus
prophecy tells us in advance who Jesus was and is
Matthew 22:44 CSB
The Lord declared to my Lord, ‘Sit at my right hand until I put your enemies under your feet’?
Jesus Here is quoting the greatest King Israel would have had - King David
David wrote this out of a Revelation He had of Jesus
Psalm 110:1 CSB
This is the declaration of the Lord to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies your footstool.”
The Declaration of the Lord to My Lord
as far a earthly authority there4 was none higher then David- but He had a revelation of Jesus His Lord
this made Him write Psalm 110
Psalm 110 CSB
A psalm of David. This is the declaration of the Lord to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies your footstool.” The Lord will extend your mighty scepter from Zion. Rule over your surrounding enemies. Your people will volunteer on your day of battle. In holy splendor, from the womb of the dawn, the dew of your youth belongs to you. The Lord has sworn an oath and will not take it back: “You are a priest forever according to the pattern of Melchizedek.” The Lord is at your right hand; he will crush kings on the day of his anger. He will judge the nations, heaping up corpses; he will crush leaders over the entire world. He will drink from the brook by the road; therefore, he will lift up his head.
When confession the revelation that we have of Jesus -
The Word Reveals
The Spirit Reveals
This is Spirit and truth!
That is What Revelation is- It is the SPirit revealing truth
The Word of God is Spirit revealing truth:
2 Peter 1:20–21 CSB
Above all, you know this: No prophecy of Scripture comes from the prophet’s own interpretation, because no prophecy ever came by the will of man; instead, men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
This Scripture with is truth, came about because of the Holy Spirit working in and through man!

The Word Reveals Jesus:

Colossians 1:15–20 CSB
He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For everything was created by him, in heaven and on earth, the visible and the invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities— all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and by him all things hold together. He is also the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that he might come to have first place in everything. For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile everything to himself, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.

This is the revelation of Jesus Christ!

And this is what WE confess!
The Spirit reveals Jesus, so that we may be saved, blessed and empowered to live!
Matthew 17:1–2 CSB
After six days Jesus took Peter, James, and his brother John and led them up on a high mountain by themselves. He was transfigured in front of them, and his face shone like the sun; his clothes became as white as the light.
Right Here there is a special Revelation that happens
Matthew Jesus is Transfigured on the Mountain / 17:1–13 / 111

The Transfiguration was a glimpse of Jesus’ true glory, a special revelation of his divinity to Peter, James, and John. This was God’s divine affirmation of everything Jesus had done and was about to do

Philippians 2:5–10 CSB
Adopt the same attitude as that of Christ Jesus, who, existing in the form of God, did not consider equality with God as something to be exploited. Instead he emptied himself by assuming the form of a servant, taking on the likeness of humanity. And when he had come as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death— even to death on a cross. For this reason God highly exalted him and gave him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow— in heaven and on earth and under the earth—
Jesus here reveals his true glory. This is what the prophets spoke about when they wrote of the Messiah who would come
God in the flesh
All of Scripture pointed ot he promise of Jesus
Moses was a type of Jesus- a foreshadowing of Jesus
Moses was a deliver call by called
Jesus was a delivers sent from God
Moses’ face shown because he was in glory of the Lord
Jesus shone because of His own Glory

Who are the two who show up?

Matthew 17:3 CSB
Suddenly, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with him.
Why is it important that Moses and Elijah show up?
Moses and Elijah were considered the two greatest prophets of the Old Testament in Jewish tradition
Moses represents the Lw
Elijah represents the prophets
Matthew Jesus is Transfigured on the Mountain / 17:1–13 / 111

Moses’ and Elijah’s presence with Jesus confirmed Jesus’ messianic mission to fulfill God’s law and the words of God’s prophets

MOSES AND ELIJAH REPRESENT THE LAW AND THE PROPHETS, BOTH OF WHICH HAD FORETOLD CHRIST’S, WHICH IS WHAT HEY WERE SPEAKING ABOUT
Luke 9:31 CSB
They appeared in glory and were speaking of his departure, which he was about to accomplish in Jerusalem.
They appearance also confirmed the testimony that Jesus made about Himself
He wasn’t Moses nor was He Elijah
But He was greater then them both
Jesus is not merely one of the prophets
HE IS GREATER!
THE WHORK OF SALVATION WAS TO BE COMPLETED BY WORD MADE FLESH
THE GOOD SHEPHERD
THE WORK OF SALVATION WAS ACCOMPLISHED BY GOD IN THE FLESH
NOT DEPENDENT ON MAM
JESUS IS THE RESURRECTION AND THE LIFE
WHICH IS EVIDENT IN MOSES AND ELIJAH BEING THERE WITH HIM
Colossians 3:4 CSB
When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.
IN THIS MOMENT THIS SCRIPTURE IS FULFILLED WITH MOSES AND ELIJAH

GOD’S WORD

Matthew 17:4–6 CSB
Then Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it’s good for us to be here. If you want, I will set up three shelters here: one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” While he was still speaking, suddenly a bright cloud covered them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased. Listen to him!” When the disciples heard this, they fell facedown and were terrified.
LISTEN TO HIM- HE HAS THE WORDS OF LIFE
This chapter is about Revelation- The Revealing of Jesus Christ
1 John 5:9–13 CSB
If we accept human testimony, God’s testimony is greater, because it is God’s testimony that he has given about his Son. The one who believes in the Son of God has this testimony within himself. The one who does not believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony God has given about his Son. And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. The one who has the Son has life. The one who does not have the Son of God does not have life. I have written these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.

THE REVELATION OF JESUS CHANGES EVERYTHING- EVEN WHO WE ARE

Jesus was transformed before their very eyes
In Christ we are new creations
2 Corinthians 5:17 CSB
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away, and see, the new has come!
God doesn’t just leave us the same as we were
salvation is something that starts when we call on the name of the Lord
Romans 8:14–17 CSB
For all those led by God’s Spirit are God’s sons. For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear. Instead, you received the Spirit of adoption, by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father!” The Spirit himself testifies together with our spirit that we are God’s children, and if children, also heirs—heirs of God and coheirs with Christ—if indeed we suffer with him so that we may also be glorified with him.
We have a new Spirit within us that leads us
this was the promise of God
Ezekiel 36:26–27 CSB
I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will remove your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. I will place my Spirit within you and cause you to follow my statutes and carefully observe my ordinances.
Jesus is the fulfillment of this - He is the Means through Which we receive the new creation life
He is the reason we are no longer slaves to sin and fear, BUT WE CRY OUT ABBA FATHER
HE IS THE REASON WE ARE COHEIRS WITH CHRIST
WHEN YOU GET THIS REVELATION YOU LIVE DIFFERENTLY- LISTEN TO HIM!
Romans 12:2 CSB
Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.

metamorphoo (μεταμορφόω, 3339), “to change into another form”

of believers, Rom. 12:2, “be ye transformed,” the obligation being to undergo a complete change which, under the power of God, will find expression in character and conduct

2 Corinthians 3:18 CSB
We all, with unveiled faces, are looking as in a mirror at the glory of the Lord and are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory; this is from the Lord who is the Spirit.
By Looking at Him we Become more like Him!
We even have His Spirit
Romans 8:11 CSB
And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead lives in you, then he who raised Christ from the dead will also bring your mortal bodies to life through his Spirit who lives in you.

Jesus told us of the Spirit coming

Jesus told His Disciple John 16:7
John 16:7 CSB
Nevertheless, I am telling you the truth. It is for your benefit that I go away, because if I don’t go away the Counselor will not come to you. If I go, I will send him to you.
Jesus promised the Spirit! the Helper
Also the Power:
Acts 1:8 CSB
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

We live based on the Revelation of Jesus

Acts 17:28 CSB
For in him we live and move and have our being, as even some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also his offspring.’
We live by Faith, In Him
Just as God said “Listen to Him”
Matthew 17:14–20 CSB
When they reached the crowd, a man approached and knelt down before him. “Lord,” he said, “have mercy on my son, because he has seizures and suffers terribly. He often falls into the fire and often into the water. I brought him to your disciples, but they couldn’t heal him.” Jesus replied, “You unbelieving and perverse generation, how long will I be with you? How long must I put up with you? Bring him here to me.” Then Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of him, and from that moment the boy was healed. Then the disciples approached Jesus privately and said, “Why couldn’t we drive it out?” “Because of your little faith,” he told them. “For truly I tell you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will tell this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”
Jesus here doesn’t tell them they couldn’t do it
He told them to believe in who He is!
We pray for healing and cast out demons because of who Christ is
Ephesians 1:17–23 CSB
I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, would give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened so that you may know what is the hope of his calling, what is the wealth of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the mighty working of his strength. He exercised this power in Christ by raising him from the dead and seating him at his right hand in the heavens—far above every ruler and authority, power and dominion, and every title given, not only in this age but also in the one to come. And he subjected everything under his feet and appointed him as head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of the one who fills all things in every way.
Notice here that the disciples where unable to cast out the demon in Matthew 17 because they lacked faith
Matthew 10 Jesus gave them authority over demons and sickness
After the Resurrection they don’t lack the faith- to the point where Peter’s shadow brings healing.
Acts 3:3–8 CSB
When he saw Peter and John about to enter the temple, he asked for money. Peter, along with John, looked straight at him and said, “Look at us.” So he turned to them, expecting to get something from them. But Peter said, “I don’t have silver or gold, but what I do have, I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, get up and walk!” Then, taking him by the right hand he raised him up, and at once his feet and ankles became strong. So he jumped up and started to walk, and he entered the temple with them—walking, leaping, and praising God.
Everything is through Jesus
Romans 10:17 CSB
So faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the message about Christ.
Act on the faith
James 1:22 CSB
But be doers of the word and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
