Intro

I Must Decrease

the next scene centers on John the baptist doing as his name implies

Jesus is also there baptizing people where water is plentiful

people want change in their lives and very often know the truth when they hear it

a discussion about purification- the Jew likely wondering how anyone is purified by what is going on out in the wilderness

everything recieved is from heaven and the one giving here is the Christ

this is all about Jesus and what he has come to do and that is what should be made the forefront of our lives

if you really want purification, it will come through that man alone

Jesus in Samaria

the opposite end of the spectrum of people

a whole laundry list of out of the ordinary things happen all at once

a place where Jews don’t want to go

Jesus tells the woman that what God is seeking after is not worship in or at or through physical things

worship in spirit and in truth, worship God in all that you are and without anything holding you back from your relationship with him

who you are and where you are, are not the defining traits of a follower of God

Jesus also proclaims himself to be the Christ, take that Islam

“come and see” repeated again, in a town where no other Jew would go

he is nourished and so too are those who do the will of God

Application

what feeds you?

what motivates you to do the things that you do?

are you focused on doing the will of God in your every day life?

“doing the will of God” sounds maybe a little high and mighty, but we talked about what that means on Wednesday in Ephesians

are you focused on doing the good you’ve been prepared for and that has been prepared for you?
