You Shall Not Commit Adultery
Recap: When we looked at this together, we discussed how this commandment reminds us of the dangers of sexual sin and how we can find forgiveness of this sin in the Lord Jesus who will strengthen us to resist temptation.
Discussion:
What are some ways that Satan can tempt us to fall into this sin?
How do you guard yourself from these temptations?
In 1 Corinthians 6:8-11, Paul reminds us of our identity in Christ. How does this impact our thinking when it comes to temptation, failure and guilt?
You Shall Not Steal
Recap: When we looked at this lesson together, we found that stealing is found in every aspect of our society and that we have all fallen into this sin ourselves. However, we also saw that Jesus Himself died for the sake of thieves and that as His forgiven people, we are called to a life of stewardship for His glory.
Discussion:
What are some ways you’ve found yourself tempted to steal? (Plagiarism, cheating, lying to your boss, etc.)
Seeing that the gospel takes thieves and make them stewards for good, how do you think you could better use your money this week for the glory of God?
You Shall Not Bear False Witness
Recap: When we looked at this together, we discussed the impact our words can have and how important the truth is for the good of others and the glory of God. As we studied this commandment, we asked ourselves, “Whenever I am speaking with someone, I should ask (1) Will my words reflect God’s character? (2) Will my words refresh the people around me? (3) Will my words be a reproach to myself later on?”
Discussion:
As people who are loved by the God who doesn’t lie, how can our words reflect Him to those around us?
In our study, we saw that bearing false witness looks like twisting peoples words, gossip, slander, or retelling a story to make yourself look better and someone else look worse. Why do you think we are so tempted to commit these sins?
Why is it particularly important for Christians to be a truth speaking people?
You Shall Not Covet
Recap: When we looked at this study together, we saw the danger of covetousness as it promises us a life that it can’t give and turns us into people we don’t even recognize. After this, we saw some biblical solutions to fighting this temptation.
Discussion:
Have you noticed any areas in your life where you’ve been guilty of covetousness?
When you find yourself lacking contentment with what you have, what are some ways that you find contentment?
Do you think that contentment means that you shouldn’t ever work hard for something you’d like? Why or why not?
In Hebrews 13, we find that the cure to coveting popularity is to consider the fact that you belong to God and that He is always with you. How does remembering this give you peace when fighting covetousness?
