Mother's Day is a time when we honor and celebrate the women who have played such important and integral roles in our lives. It’s not an exaggeration to say that none of us would be here today if not for our mothers.
We also recognize that there are those in attendance today who’ve struggled in their relationship with their own mothers or struggled through the process of becoming a mother themselves. This day is not without pain for some as we highlight motherhood and to you I pray that you would know your struggle is not in vain. God sees you, He hears your every prayer and holds your every tear. He loves you.
Now since we are studying Genesis and specifically looking at the life of Abraham and Sarah, I though it appropriate to use her as our example for today.
1 Peter 3:5–6 CSB
For in the past, the holy women who put their hope in God also adorned themselves in this way, submitting to their own husbands, just as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord. You have become her children when you do what is good and do not fear any intimidation.
Now our world places a lot of emphasis on external beauty. Does it not? Our world teaches women to use their outward beauty and sexuality to get what they want, to control men, and manipulate the world around them.
But what I want you to see today is not what the world says is powerful but what God says is.
It has been said that the man maybe the head of the home but the woman is the neck. She can turn the head. Do you know that scripture actually teaches this very idea.

I. The Power of a Godliness.

1 Peter 3:1–2 CSB
In the same way, wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands so that, even if some disobey the word, they may be won over without a word by the way their wives live when they observe your pure, reverent lives.
So then how can a woman turn the head of her disobedient husband?
Godliness.
Now some of you are already saying but pastor you don’t know my husband like I do. I do not, but God does.
Now the world will tell you this weakness but God is telling you this true influence. Look at the power a godly woman can have.
1 Peter 3:1 (CSB)
...they may be won over without a word by the way their wives live
This is an amazing amount of influence. The world will tell you this weakness but God is not emphasizing weakness he is emphasizing the power of A Godly woman. So much so that she may be able to win over her husband without even speaking a word.
Church family and ladies in the church. That is an amazing amount of influence. Now let’s be clear about something. This passage is not suggesting that woman do not have a voice in their home but rather that your power of persuasive tongue does not match up to the power of a Godly heart. In fact, lets be honest most men do not handle harsh criticism from their wives well anyways.
Men are often willing to die for respect. If they feel they have lost the respect of their wives, anger is usually the reaction.
So a quiet reverent heart that lives and looks like Jesus Christ is a far more powerful influence on your husband than cutting words.
Do you want your husband to be more Godly....Then invest in your relationship with Jesus Christ and then live it to the fullest.
This is how your husbands heart can be changed. This should be a comfort for you. Especailly if you feel as if you have tried everything else. Scripture tells us that your example is powerful and is enough to move the head.
Will you trust in the scriptures?

II. The Beauty that God values.

1 Peter 3:3–6 CSB
Don’t let your beauty consist of outward things like elaborate hairstyles and wearing gold jewelry or fine clothes, but rather what is inside the heart—the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight. For in the past, the holy women who put their hope in God also adorned themselves in this way, submitting to their own husbands, just as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord. You have become her children when you do what is good and do not fear any intimidation.
Once again there is been made a false paradigm made out of this passage. Woman this passage is not saying that you should not strive to be outwardly attractive. But rather the your outward beauty should stand apart from your inward beauty. These two things should align. It is natural for a woman to want feel beautiful and desirable.
The problem comes when this desire outruns the desire to be Godly. This is what is happened in our world. This explains why so many young woman dress the way they do.
Their desire to feel beautiful and attractive has outpaced their desire for God to see them in that same light.
In essence they have replaced the desire for God with the desire for the eyes of men. If you have no God that you serve then what other beauty is there to strive for.
