Titus 2:1 ESV
But as for you, teach what accords with sound doctrine.

BIBLICAL EXAMPLES OF A TEACHER

LUKE
Luke 1:1–4 (NKJV)
Inasmuch as many have taken in hand to set in order a narrative of those things which have been fulfilled among us,
just as those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word delivered them to us,
it seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write to you an orderly account, most excellent Theophilus,
that you may know the certainty of those things in which you were instructed.
Luke 1:1–4 (AMP)
SINCE [as is well known] many have undertaken to put in order and draw up a [thorough] narrative of the surely established deeds which have been accomplished and fulfilled in and among us,
Exactly as they were handed down to us by those who from the [official] beginning [of Jesus’ ministry] were eyewitnesses and ministers of the Word [that is, of the doctrine concerning the attainment through Christ of salvation in the kingdom of God],
It seemed good and desirable to me, [and so I have determined] also after having searched out diligently and followed all things closely and traced accurately the course from the highest to the minutest detail from the very first, to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus,
[My purpose is] that you may know the full truth and understand with certainty and security against error the accounts (histories) and doctrines of the faith of which you have been informed and in which you have been orally instructed.

WHY IS THE TEACHER IMPORTANT

1 Timothy 4:16 ESV
Keep a close watch on yourself and on the teaching. Persist in this, for by so doing you will save both yourself and your hearers.
2 Timothy 4:1–5 NKJV
I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom: Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.

TRAITS OF A TEACHER

May be interested in careers such as: A theologican, historian, physican, scientist, psychologist, tutor, and careers involving various forms of teaching and writing (journalism, editors, authors etc).
Curiousity to learn and understand, more then the average person.
Enjoys and can easily spend large amounts of time reading books, studying, and writing, on various topics of interest.
The teacher may be iterested in topics that not many others enjoy or are interested about.
Teachers have a passion for the word of God. They are like spiritual investigators, searching and probing the word. They may use dictionaries, concordances, commentaries, and any other information gathered on scripture to broaden their study.
May tend to be analytical or introverted in personality. Easily spending extended periods of time alone on their research.
Passionate about discovering and validating truth. May find it difficult to rest until they have reached a conclusion.
Above average communication skills to communicate and explain complex ideas in a way that people will understand.
Greatly concerned about the accuracy of information (tend to be overthinkers). (you need to tell me what the scripture is, how you got to this conclusion (your process to get here), why your interpreting it this way etc…)
Has a passion for correcting error.
They are gifted with great research abilities. Always learning and hungry to grow.
Passionate about sharing their persepctives, opinions, and conclusions with others. They may experience frustration when others do not want to learn or can’t see what you do.
Passionate about people’s spiritual growth. They desire for people know the truth and actively live out the truth that is in the word. The teacher’s outlet for seeing people grow spiritually will be through practical instruction in the word of God.

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE

I was into these things long before I was seeking God, writing articles etc. (rabbit genes brown eye and blue eye, made no money on it just wanted to).
Once I got into the word I went all in but couldn’t understand all of it (you need Holy Spirit).
I can easily spend hours in the word (1 month commitment).
Testimony
Know yourself to know God. (go deeper)

TEMPTATIONS AND CHALLENGES OF A TEACHER

1. Not everyone is like you! (refer Luke 1) You may have a passion about discovering and validating truth, studying, care about the accuracy of information etc… more then others. Not everyone will be interested in the topics your interested in. Not everyone wants you to write out the whole passage in greek for them. And that is OK! Guard against frustration, judgment, critism in your heart. Know the audience that your speaking to and communicate your findings appropriately.
1 Corinthians 12:18–21 NKJV
But now God has set the members, each one of them, in the body just as He pleased. And if they were all one member, where would the body be? But now indeed there are many members, yet one body. And the eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you”; nor again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.”
2. Religion
2 Timothy 3:7 NKJV
always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
Paul is warning against people who are always learning but never come to the knowledge of the truth. Humanity likes to seek out knowledge.
John 5:39–40 NKJV
You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me. But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life.
The Pharisees were gifted teachers, but the gift was unsanctified as they did not have the Holy Spirit. They couldn’t recognize when Jesus who the scriptures spoke of was standing in front of them. Without the Holy Spirit they led hypocritcal lifestyles, placed heavy burdens on people, and were ever learning but never came to the knowledge of the truth.
3. Relying on yourself
John 14:26 NKJV
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.
1 John 2:27 NKJV
But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him.
John 16:13 NKJV
However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.
The teacher may be tempted to lean on their own knowledge and intelligence rather then the Holy Spirit. Teachers should commit their gift to the Holy Spirit and rely on Him to teach them and give them revelation from the word of God. Invest time in prayer and meditation on scripture to keep your mind set on God and not yourself. Example.
A word should work in you before working through you. God may teach you in ways you do not expect.
4. Getting off focus
Ephesians 4:14 NKJV
that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting,
James 1:6–8 NKJV
But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
