Romans 6:1-14
Thesis: Because Christ has died for our sins we must not abuse His saving grace by continuing in sin. SO WHAT?
Insensitivity to sin
Believers do not continue in sin because Christ’s death and life are the pattern for the believer’s new life. (v.1-11) SO WHAT?
Because of Christ’s death to sin believers also are dead to sin. (v.1-3) SO WHAT?
Just as a dead body is non-responsive to any stimulus so believers are not to respond to the stimuli of sin. SO WHAT?
Believers admission to Christ (through the baptism of the Holy Spirit at salvation) means disassociation with sin. SO WHAT?
Because of Christ’s new life believers also have new life in Him. (v.4-11) SO WHAT?
As Christ received new life, so those who trust in Him will receive a new life to Him and apart from sin. SO WHAT?
Interchanging Masters
Believers do not continue in sin for they have exchanged their old master for a New One which requires righteous living. (v.12-14) SO WHAT?
Believers do not continue submitting themselves to their sinful passions because they are dead to their former passions. SO WHAT?
Believers present their bodies in service to God for the cause of righteousness because they are alive to God. SO WHAT?
