Intro
Hey y’all, hows it going?
Welcome to the last night in the Chapel. Next week we will be outside for big church party, which y’all should come to. It’ll be fun!
Who is ready for school to be out? Seniors? How you feeling? Checked out yet?
Also seniors, if you didn’t know, this is your last time in here as a regular student.
You are always welcome back, you always have a place. But tonight is the last night in the chapel for y’all.
So as we head in to summer, I want to you to think about what your summer is going to look like.
I know right some of y’all are still stressing through finals, or seniors you are mentally checked out, but summer is going to be about getting ready to move.
Our minds are a million places right now.
And I remember how I was when I was your age, all i thought about was hanging with friends, or making the most of summer, or can’t wait for camp.
Pick one, I was that kids.
But as we go into summer, I want you to think.
How am i going to spend it? What am I going to focus on?
The past few months in here we have talked a good bit about spiritual formation, and how a life of following jesus takes your whole life. That following Jesus is more than mental assent but it involves picking up your feet and walking with Him.
So this is where I want us end our semester in here.
I want to encourage you to go in to summer looking at how you can pick up your feet and follow Jesus.
So this is where I want to live tonight.
Do i know jesus, and what does it mean to follow jesus?
So question for you have you ever seen someone act like they know what they’re talking about, but in reality, they have no idea what they are talking about?
Probably all of us can think of someone who is pretty good at it. I like to think it’s most politicians.
But do you know what stolen valor is?
Basically, there are people out there who will dress up as someone who served in the military. and go around, they’ll have a good story, they’ll look the part. They’ll have on the uniform the whole 9 yards.
But what do you think happens when they run in to an actually service man? Like a fake marine, when he shows up around a real marine?
They call them out.
So what some retired and maybe still enlisted military men will do is, they’ll go around and call these dudes out. And film it, and it’s a youtube rabbit hole. This one guy had on markings of a certain battalion or something that the real marine was a part of. and gets him to just dig the hole of a lie and calls him
And it’s actually a crime to do this, to act like you were military.
But this is this idea I want to live in tonight.
This idea of actually following Jesus, not faking it, not acting like. not wearing the right uniform but actually picking up your feet and walking, taking steps following after Him.
context
So if you have a bible, open up to Matthew 7 verse 21-23.
If you don’t have a bible, throw a hand up and we’ll get one to you/
Who needs a bible?
Cool cool.
Matthew 7:21-23, let me set the scene for you.
This is near the end of the sermon on the mount, the most famous sermon in all of christendom.
This is where jesus lays out, what it means to follow Him. What a life following him looking like.
And near the end Jesus says some really haunting words.
SO let’s read this passage together, but befire we do, let’s pray for our time in the word.
Pray with me
Pray
Okay cool, read this with me.
Matthew 7:21–23 ESV
21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ 23 And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’
Okay, so this is a picture that Jesus paints of basically him standing at the end of the all things, and he tells them. Not everyone who says Lord Lord will enter the kingdom of Heaven. “I never knew you”

So here is the first question we need to answer. What does it mean to know?
So let’s think about it.
Someone tell me, who was Abraham Lincoln?
Cool, president, what is he famous for? Famously ended slavery.
